Heading to Philly for a wedding in a couple weeks. What is the best place to get a cheesesteak? Any other "must do" tourist suggestions?

I've only been there once, and that was about 15 years ago, so I know that a lot has changed since then. If you've never been there I would think Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell are must see items. I've also heard really good things about the Constitution Center.
The Mint tour is also interesting, I just wish they gave out free samples.

In my oppinion the big two, Geno's and Pat's are overrated. But of the two I prefer Pat's. In Philly any little mom and pop pizza/sandwich place will usually make a great cheese steak. If you have a day take the time to head down to Liberty Square area. You can pick up a map of the historic sites and tour on your own or go with a group.
Penn's Landing is nice too, and if the Gazella is in port and doing tours take one. If you have kids or maybe if you don't, the museums are great. At the Franklin Institute the Tut Exhibit will be there for a couple more weeks, maybe. The art museum is nice and free on Sundays.

I only ate at Pat's and I thought it was pretty good. I would definately make a stop at Pat's and/or Geno's if for no other reason than to say you did. Everyone may not agree that either has the "best" cheesesteak in Philly, but they are definately recognized as the two big places to go for them. Even better, since they're right across from each other, go with a friend and split a cheesesteak at each so you can say you ate at both and officially have an opinion on the "which is better" debate.

Cheesesteak - Jim's on south street.
What are your interest? Let us know when you are going to be here, maybe we can meet up for a drink or two and say hello.
Convention center, ride the ducks, nightlife, museums, sporting events and street parties. Give me an idea of what you are looking for and I can give you a list.

The only "must do" in philly is to get out before dark.
New Hope is a nice area, especially in the fall.

Have a City Tavern Cooler at the City Tavern. OLD place & the little 'bar' area is cool. The lobby at the Ritz Carlton is a beautiful place for a midday cocktail & snacks. We love Lorenzo's pizza on South Street too. Yum.

Jim's is the best!!!!
The Tut exhibit is only in town until 9/30.
I just took my first tour of the USS New Jersey that is docked in Camden (2 minutes over the bridge). the kids and I took the self-guided tour. The next time I want to go with a docent lead tour so I can learn more. It was very impressive. - If you are into American History....
I'll join you and Jeanie for that drink...I'm 15 minutes over the bridge...

Probably too late but in South Philly there is a great Italian restaurant - Ralphs. Take cash - they only take dead presidents, no credit cards

Oh and the USS New Jersey is a great tour, penns landing area, has a lot of nice bars by the water. Catch a sporting event, the stadiums are awesome. Convention center should not be missed, liberty bell, etc. Ride the ducks, is cool. South street, just to people watch....
Okay AG, let us know what your interest are, and when you will be here and we can give you some more ideas.
