East Coast Surfing

Looking for some East Coast Surfing spots.

Up my way I usually surf North Hampton, NH . . . Cahoon Hallow out in Wellfleet on Cape Cod . . . or Cisco Beach out where I live here on Nantucket .

I've done the Montauk area out on Long Island as well.

But with the pending cold that tends to come up here every October that sticks around just a tad too long for my liking I am looking to head South as I have a good deal of free time heading my way. Anyone know some good spots down the East Coast? I figured asking Parrot Heads would be the way to go on this Change in Latitude inquisition.

Hatteras

(Be sure to search this forum for OBX or Hatteras before you go. Lots of good information there.)

Ron Jon Surf Park - Orlanado. Hasn't opened yet, but when it does it's gonna be the best cold water surf spot ever (Heated pool). Don't believe me? Look at the website. It sounds unreal. Cause even down here in Florida the atlantic gets colder than witches teet.

Our own "OceanCityGirl" takes her crew to the Outer Banks each year for a surfin' safari. Them Jersey boys seem to like the southern swells.

Definitely bypass Maryland and Virginia Beach (my hometown) and head south another 90 minutes to the outer banks. The best time of year is after October 1st. Weather and water are still generally warm, hurricane season is still active and after October 1 they open up even more of the shore for beach driving ...... 4WD will get you to places where you'll find only surfers and fishermen.

Personally I don't drive all the way down to Hatteras an more (its about a 2 hour drive from Kitty Hawk to Hatteras), I find plenty of good spots further north along the OBX stretch. Stop by any of the many surf shops along the way and they'll give you good up-to-the-minute local information for the best spots. I like Whalebone Surf Shop in Nags Head but there are dozens of good surf shops all over the area.

I haven't done it in a while but Google "surf cams OBX" and you'll find a lot of live shots.

I'm envious. I haven't made it to OBX in the past 3 years ..... (dang kids and their soccer/baseball/football games every freakin' weekend are just ruining my surf time.) :D

Newcastle NSW - east coast of Australia ....

GREAT surfing and the only place in the world where all World Surfing champions, past and present have been in the water surfing the waves at the one time!

on my radar. I've been trying to get over to Australia for a couple years now. When I go . . . it will be for atleast a month or so. So many things I want to see and experience there.

In your travels, take a shot at the jersey shore. There are lots of good spots and its seasonal so theres no bennie traffic...
Start around Spring Lake and work your way down to Long beach Island.
Thats exit (98 thru 63 on the Garden State Parkway)

Yep, Hatteras is one of the better places on the east coast. We will be going there in two weeks. My sons generally surf Frisco pier in Frisco, NC or the lighthouse which can be a rough spot to surf esp. in the fall. A group of OC hs kids are there right now for an NSAA contest and say it's going well.
In Fla they go to Vero Beach I think but as you know anywhere in the East Coast is generally lacking.
Next weekend my sons are going to somewhere in Maine for a surf trip. They are going there this year due to the fact that Montaugh where their group usually takes their fall trip last year would not allow surfing on the same beach they camp on. Every year their group, Christian Surfers Int. or Watermen has an east coast camp/surf trip in the fall.
Although they enjoy travelling the east coast to surf they still prefer their west coast surf trips.
