Three Drinks A Day Like Pack Of Cigarettes
POSTED: 7:55 am CDT September 27, 2007
A woman who drinks alcohol -- whether it is beer, wine or liquor -- is more likely to get breast cancer, according to a new study.
The study by Kaiser Permanente looked at information from more than 70,000 women from 1978 to 1985. By 2004, more than 2,800 -- 4 percent -- had been diagnosed with breast cancer

That is so funny that you just posted this. I literally just left my Dad and Step Mom's house and they told me this same thing and that she was no longer going to even socially drink because of this study. And it got me wondering would it be better to live till you're 90 and not do anything unhealthy/fun, or make it to 72 and be able to eat and drink do the things you enjoy. My Dad is 68 and doesn't drink, smoke, eat fried foods or red meat and I just wonder if it's really worth it, I'm 41 and don't feel like it would be, but as I get older maybe I'll change my opinion.

Not drinking beer, wine, liquor would increase my chances of total insanity by 100%......I'll just live with the risk.

I think the issue is that with Breast Cancer women won't make it to even 72. Even though early detection increases survival rates, still way too many women die of this disease.

Of course this study is completely at odds with the studies showing women should drink moderate amounts of alcohol to combat heart disease.

It would be ironic if Kaiser funded one of those studies too. I do agree with you that taking the joy out of life is really not living...at least not for me. I think it is important to know your risk factors and use moderation...but continue to live and enjoy life to the fullest.

I think it's funny that in order to have "fun" or to "live a life," some people feel that you HAVE to drink and/or smoke. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a good, cold beer or mararita as much as the next person. But I can also have a pretty good time without the need to imbibe.

I could live without bacon....
I can have plenty of fun without alcohol.....I just like to have a few drinks when and if I feel like it......sometimes even to excess.....but it's not like that's the center of my universe......

Live without bacon???

Are you insane??
I do enjoy a few drinks now and then...so no judgement call there from me. But sadly I do know more than a few folks who do make it the center of their universe. That's just not my thing. Different strokes....
Like I said, this study is at odds with at least one other study. People need to weigh the risks, make informed decisions and live their own lives...hopefully to the fullest.

What is funny about that?? Alcoholism is a serious disease and there are some people out there that feel that way and are addicted to it and it tears apart their families and their lives, nothing funny that I can see. But this has nothing to do with my post, I said they gave up even social drinking because one study suggested it MIGHT cause breast cancer. I think you can find a study out there somewhere to prove anything that you wanted to.

The study found that 1-2 drinks per day resulted in a 10% increased risk. At 3 drinks, it went up to 30%.
Women are 16 times more likely to die from heart disease than from breast cancer, so I think I'll encourage my wife to keep having her glass of wine with dinner.

The article isn't really that informative and certainly does not prove a causal relationship...
Therefore, I agree with Paige!!

This topic reminds me of a quote I saw once.
When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Healthy living is a serious thing for sure, but just hang on a bit and they will come out with another study saying the opposite thing,In my oppinion(and Im no expert) Stress is a killer, and what better stress reliever than getting nutty at a J.B. tailgate party,or sipping a few cold brews as you watch the sunset.....dont forget kiddies you have to be able to live with all these rules to keep you alive!! "Id rather die while Im living then live when Im dead"J.B.
