I was thinking as the NL pennant race was coming to a wild finish and all the tiebreaker possibilities were being presented. Is this baseball greatest season?
In review...Many milestones have been passed.
Glavine = 300th win
Hoffman = 500th save (and 40+ for the 9th time)
Clemens = 350th win
Thome = 500th HR (and its a walk off)
A-Rod = 500th HR
Thomas = 500th HR
Sosa = 600th HR
Bonds* = Passed Ruth and Aaron into 1st on all-time HR list
Then the Red Sox/Yankees chase for the AL East.
A rookie pitched a nono on his second start.
Arguably, baseballs three most popular teams (Red Sox, Yankees and Cubs) are all in the postseason.
Topped with the NL, with 4 games remaining, there was 8 teams with legit chances for the 4 playoff spots.
The Phils may have finally avenged 1964.
MLB had more people attend games then in any season.
Only the second time since 1901 that no team won a 100 or lost a 100 games.
3 NL west teams fight to the end...and none are LA or SF

It just maybe is

No. The Rangers s***. But that's not unusual.

The best baseball season ever would be when the Rangers win the WS. :lol: :lol:

If he'd done more than 15-12 with a 4.40 ERA, I might agree. There have been more successful rookie imports in recent years.

Not a BAD season, but the hype led me to believe in more.

And what time would you like the fire alarm pulled tonight? :-? :-?

It has definitely been a great season, but to say it's the greatest ever is subjective. It's certainly one of the best in my life time if only because there is/has been so much drama right up to the end. usually it's between two or maybe three teams and everything else is decided.

The 70's had great players and great seasons. I forget what year it was...so long ago but Lou Brock was breaking records, Nolan Ryan was throwing no-hitters, Aaron was still playing, the Yaz and Lynn were lighting it up. The big red machine was rolling. The A's were hot and stacked with greats. Back then the achievements were not clouded by salary comparisons, steroid scandals, ball parks with short outfield walls, over expansion and diluted talent pool. I could go on, but baseball was exciting when the people of the cities felt the players were playing for the pride of the team and city and not for a new contract next season.

Maybe it's just me, but I thought 2006 was better. :wink:

But Texas did score 30 in a game this year.
I almost forgot Biggio getting his 3,000th hit

I was speaking in general and overall. Not just for a particular city or team

He had a rough September due to fatigue. He received the least run support of any Boston starter. He lost 4 games where he gave up 2 runs or less. The bullpen cost him 5 other wins. A 4.4 ERA in the AL is not too shabby. If he can get enough rests between starts in the postseason he could be a major factor.

Good National League races, not in the A.L.
