Let me give you guys a little background on me first....
I'm a tv sports reporter/anchor. Have been in this business for just over 6 years now, paying my dues and working my way up to the bigger markets (evansville not huge but not tiny....market 100)
I have been sending resumes and tapes out for about a month, looking to make the move to a large market (top 50) and I am a "finalist" for a job in Louisville (my home state)
But...I have just found out there are several openings for a network in the Caymen Islands. I know nothing about the Caymen Islands other than they are suppose to be beautiful. The pay is not the greatest...but not bad either. So...I'm thinking why not send a resume and at least look into it. What is the worst that could happen....spend a few years in a tropical paradise??????

You have to decide how agressive your career path is. Most top 50 markets would look at it as a slacker downgrade. If you want to be successful in TV/radio I think you have to keep moving up, especially if it's voluntary.
Hey, most of us on this board often dream of a job in the islands, but for anyone with real ambition in their field it would probably be a dead end. I'm crossing my fingers and toes for you for Louisville!!!

I have to agree with what super trooper says, but I'm also the guy who sent a resume to St. John when I started my job search last month.
It really depends on where you see yourself ten years from now, and if that is working in a major market, I don't think you should head to the tropics, because a) it'll come across to many future potential employers that you don't take it seriously and b) you'll potentially age yourself out of the market when you come back.
However, if you're not concerned about climbing the corporate ladder...

There is no question, it would not be a "career move", but not sure I could turn it down, if the opportunity presented itself (I dont have anything or anyone to tie me down)
But, I do want to work in the top 50 markets. That is the goal I set for myself out of college. Maybe a move to paradise would not be the best thing to do.
But it is fun to think about!
