I really like them, and we plan for the right itineraries so that we have the time we need in each of the ports. We like the packing and unpacking once and going to all of the places.
We mostly travel on Royal Caribbean and they have a very good system of compacting their trash and unloading it back in their home port, they also have the save the waves program, where you can allow them to do less towel laundry. They are very environmentally friendly.
This next cruise to Hawaii has two overnight ports which is great, so we get overnights in the Island that we want to be in Maui and Kauai. This is Norweigan.
So, I vote yes, I like them.
We also enjoy trips to jamaica and hanging out for a week, as well. Anwhere in the Caribbean is fine with me. This will be my second trip to Hawaii and my hubby's first, both of us cruising in Hawaii for the first time.
There is so much to do on RC, you are never bored and I like the activities aboard ship. The big liquor bill is scary at the end of the trip, so monitor this daily. You have to be prepared for that, we monitor it, because itineraries if you plan them with the ship are also on your cruise account. You can bring a bottle on the ship with you (sneak it in) also, you can choose to just take a cab to a local beach and hang out with locals instead of going on their excursions, that is what we do. We find it gives us more of a local feel for the island and we are not limited to only what they offer.
Why not try a little trip, like a 3-4 day trip to the Bahamas or Bermuda, then you can see if you like it, and your bill won't kill you. How much trouble can you get into in 3-4 days![]()

I did a cruise once and won't do another. My wife works for a small company and for their 20th anniversary they sent all employees, about 17, and their spouses on a cruise. The cruise was on a small boat, the Radisson Seven Seas Diamond, so we got to go to some islands that larger ships can't get to. The trip was out of San Juan and the first stop was St Bart's. We have an AWESOME day on the beach complete with gorgeuous topless bathing French beauties and some beers at Le Select. Go back to the ship, clean up for dinner on the island. Have an amazing time. The restaurant next to us is going crazy and the rumor is Jimmy is there. If we waste any time we miss the boat back to the ship. Cut our fun short, get on the boat and sure enough, everyone that was at the restaurant next to where we were has pics if Jimmy. True stroy. Sealed the deal I will never cruise again. Limited time to get a feel for the island and unless you want to be stranded you aren't on your own schedule.

I went on one when I was 22 with 9 of my fraternity brothers. It was on Carnival Cruises. Many stories and memories, and someone's wife, came out of that trip. It was one of the best trips I've ever been on. We drank alot, were obnoxious, probably offended some people, acted like idiots and did things I'll never do again. But if was one hell of a week (and a VERY expensive bar bill). And yes, they do have doctors onboard that can stitch you up if need be.
My second cruise was on Royal Caribbean 10 years later, with my wife and one year son. It was MUCH less enjoyable. I don't think it was the worst vacation I've every had but it was probably close. Young kids and cruises do not mix. It just doesn't work IMO.
As for the food part of it, the cruises will make efforts to accommodate you. But, we had a hard getting hold of someone to get those arrangements made. And, even though they have doctors, there is something scary about being on a boat and have an anaphylactic reaction to something you ate.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

It would be a great vacation Mal... we went on one and one of the women at our table had Celiac disease. She ordered the night before and they made her dinner special every night. It was very cool!buffettbride wrote:We had considered one for a while. Not now. Probably won't ever...at least a traditional cruise. Been on three, got to see:
St. Thomas
St. Croix
St. Maarten
Cozumel
Puerto Rico
Key West
Bahamas
Coco Cay
It's a good way to 'test' the Caribbean to see where you'd want to go and STAY. My favorite was St. Thomas. The 'drink' thing bothered me. Maybe one day they'll have all-adult, all-inclusive cruises.
Yeah, right.

We went on one and that was it for us. It set a record for kids under 14. They were every where you couldn't do a thing on the ship. The pool, the hot tub, the arcade. We were stitting up on deck and this older couple went to get in the hot tub and about 8 kids popped up from under the water.
And the way the rushed us around, about drove us crazy. We went to Tulum and had to take a boat back to the cruise ship. Except it was like being locked up in the bottom of ship. It was hot and there was no air moving, and it was going up and down with the water. I was doing fine, we were all doing good, except for sweating and suffocating, until the gal in the next aisle started to puke.
I'd rather go to one island and stay a week then spend two hours total on three and spend the rest time trapped on a boat.
