Norweigan does this!!!! They run them through travel agents, a bunch of my friends went last year from Philly, and I think they run them from Baltimore, too. I am not sure where else they sail from. It was a good deal, they had a blast, top shelf and as much as you wantedcitcat wrote:Been on three, got to see:

It's a good way to 'test' the Caribbean to see where you'd want to go and STAY. My favorite was St. Thomas. The 'drink' thing bothered me. Maybe one day they'll have all-adult, all-inclusive cruises.
Yeah, right.

Have been on one (Royal Carribean) and had a tremendous time. Am looking forward to going on another, but I have to agree with the argument about how it probably ruins some great vacation spots and off the beaten path places, i.e. Key West . But it also gives many the opportunity to get a taste of the Carribean that they would not otherwise get to see and do.
With travel so readily available, be it plane, car or ship, there is literally no place isolated from people/tourists anymore. So no matter where that perfect hideaway/vacation spot is, it will eventually be found out by the masses and bingo....so long well kept secret.

Been on one "regular" cruise. Don't look forward to doing it again. I hated traveling with your own overwhelming crowd wherever you went.
Loved the two WindJammer cruises we took. Small boat, small islands, small group of people.
Unfortunately I hear they are having financial trouble now and I wouldn't do another of their cruises until they get their act back together.

Cruising is not for me either.
I don't like being scheduled on vacation or being concerned with money.
We love the All Inclusive resorts in Jamaica. (they have them elsewhere but Jamaica has our hearts.) We avoid the port cities of Montego Bay and Ocho Rios and stick to Negril and Runaway Bay.
I guess if someone offered me a free ticket, I'd take it but I can't see myself searching out a cruise on my own.

I like them and dislike them. I've been on two,and enjoyed both of them. I may do one again, but it's not a high priority.
As a diver, I dislike them. They are big, reefs are torn up to make room for them. If you like sleepy laid back atmospheres the cruise ships will destroy thatwith their thousands of passengers daily.

The key is all about planning and research. Some cruise ships are just like herding cattle (Carnival) We never do any excursions..instead research and find the out of the way local stuff. rent a vehicle or cab and do your thing. Anytime dinning now eliminates you needing to eat at a certain time. There are some classic ships i.e. Holland America that makes all the difference in your experience. Cruising is a great deal for the $$$

Having been on a wide variety of cruises I have come to the conclusion that the ones I've enjoyed the most have been the Windjammers followed by the Star Clippers (I did a relocation cruise from the Med to the Caribbean) and then Costa Cruises in the Med, a canal cruise in Ireland and then the rest can be written off as work related and generally sucked.
I don't care for the big ships and the mobs of people and that seems to be the focus of the industry these days. Sure the all the food you can eat can be nice but in general I think it is on the low side of average in terms of quality.
What I love about the small ships is that you can get to know people on board, you see places that the big ships can't get to and you actually get to feel the motion of the ocean.
I have to say that if I can't do a small ship again I won't bother with a cruise, I will just get a group of friends together and hire a boat.
