i have been doing a little research about the exit/in...found this on their website, thought it was pretty cool....
Talk to anyone who's ever been involved with the Exit/In for any length of time and you'll hear echoes. Owsley Manier tells the story of getting the club ready to open, before the stage was even finished, when it was just "a couple of two-by-fours and some plywood." A man walked through the street door--not the famous rear entrance that gave the club its name--and asked for an audition. He walked onto the half-finished stage in cutoffs, played a couple of songs, and Manier said, "That's cool, you're hired. What's your name?" It was Jimmy Buffett, fresh from the college circuit and ready to start a run as one of the Exit/In's first hot young acts.
Liz Thiels, who was one of the club's co-owners from 1972 to 1976, probably knows more about the Exit/In than all but two or three others. She came on board during the club's second year and maintained a periodic association with it even after she ceased to be a partner. More importantly, Thiels kept a scrapbook, full of old menus, news items, advertisements and photographs.
i would love to see this scrapbook

This discussion brings me out of lurk mode for a minute:
I saw Jimmy there multiple times when the place first opened and he was the local guy on the stool on stage or at Rotier's, Mac's or the Goldrush. The early 70's in Nashville was an incredible place to be for live music. I saw Emmy Lou, John Prine, Linda Ronstadt, Dr Hook, Jesse Winchester, and many others there that I don't even remember .... it was the 70's after all!
There's a park there where Duane and Greg Allman and David Allen Coe used to hang out playing music for all us stoned hippies on the steps of a replica of the Parthenon. Good times indeed.
Somewhere in the mid-late 70's they remodeled and moved the front door around to the street so you didn't go in the back door (hence the name) They had a Grand Re-Opening celebration and gave us all Exit/In bandanas as souvenirs. Jimmy was there as well as Delbert McClinton in a leg cast, and a whole lot of other people who had gotten a good start there.
I had read somewhere that Jimmy was collecting what he called "dinosaurs" from his past. I left that bandana for him in the office at M'ville KW in 98, and a few weeks later he acknowledged it via mail.
I haven't been in the place since the early 80's, been away from Nashville since 91, so I have no clue what it even looks like in there now.

Did he wear a pearl button snap shirt?
Here is one from Bob Livingston's website.

Exit/In would be special, but any show in Nashville would.
