I have all their albums, but I haven't been to see them YET. I've talked to several who have been and they said the show was spectacular! Since they always stop here I plan to see them this year.

One of their concerts was on PBS a couple of years ago around Christmas. I know people who rave about them so I decided to give it a try. After about 5 minutes I wanted to shove knitting needles through my eardrums. I thought it was unlistenable.

And once in Greenville, which is 30 minuets away for us. We are going, just got tickets on the front row, lower level, next to the stage

Saw them last season. Wasn't really my thing, but to each his own. Stage show/set was impressive. Pretty long show, I was ready after about an hour.
...and I enjoy the occasional rock show, but it was really, really loud.

I think there amazing, but even though they play Portland every year, I have still not seen them live yet.

I saw them in Cleveland a couple years back. Definitely not my thing...but I can see how some people would like them. My mom actually fell asleep at one point during the performance...which I'm quite confused about because they are very loud, as someone else said.
I wouldn't ever go see them again, personally, but, just my humble opinion.

I saw them about 4 years ago in a very small intimate venue... they were absolutely fantastic. What a wonderful evening!
I understand they play much larger places now, but I would definitely recommend seeing them.

We went to see them 2 years in a row. The first year (not really knowing what to expect), the show really felt kinda long. We listened to more of their music that holiday season and ended up going again last year. They will be in Atlantic City early Dec but we are going to pass this year because it was the same show/story 2 years running.

Saw them once, would not go again. It was an interesting show. Just too much of it for me.

Only one of their songs at a time is more than enough for me. Plus you can hear them on every other commercial at Christmas time.

I've been a fan since BEFORE the inception of the band. They evolved from an 80's metal band called "Savatage". Their trademark hit actually was recorded by Savatage for their album "Dead Winter Dead", which is the story of a boy and a girl who meet and fall in love, despite fighting on opposite sides of the war in Sarajevo.
Their music evolved into a Christmas album under the TSO name, and has further evolved. Their shows are spectacular. They are a fluid group of very talented musicians, each filling a particular role. (In particular, Jon Oliva is one of my 5 favorite musicians of ALL TIME).
I highly recommend seeing them. If you only get one album...I recommend their only non-Christmas entry...."Beethoven's Last Night". Spectacular. I'm highly anticipating the newest work, "Night Castle". If you enjoy their style, then try some of the Savatage albums....particularily similar to the TSO style are "The Wake Of Magellan" and "Handful Of Rain", but most of their later work is done in the storybook style that the TSO albums are structured in.
Maybe their style isn't for everyone, but I think everyone owes it to themselves to find out if is their thing. Please, if at all curious, treat yourself to the show.

Yes. Since it is technically an "orchestra", they don't have to be defined by who is playing the music. They split the band down the middle, have two (equally talented) sets out on tour every Christmas. I've seen both. Both very good!

I love their music and really enjoy their show, I also agree that the times I've seen them their show has been the same, but heck I see Nutcracker every year as well
If you like their music,, like live stadium type concerts and all the noise that comes with them you should really enjoy it.
I take mom to Manheim Steamroller every year as well - now THAT show puts me to sleep
