What next? Hermione aborted Ron's baby?
Malfoy on HGH when he played Quiddich (sp?).
Stupid and pointless.
EXACTLY
that's why my simple WHY was my reply.
Why not?
because it's unnecessary

But wait!!! Harry Potter is back in headlines! Could that possibly mean more book sales now that people are going to go back and look for references in ALL of the books that out Dumbledore??? No, this couldn't have been a subtle marketing ploy. She wouldn't do that.

She doesn't NEED to do that!
She's the richest person in Great Britan. Richer than the Queen.
She doesn't need subtle tricks to sell books.
no, they just had the PR machine cranking up weeks and months before each book release pushing midnight book sales, etc. I actually doubt the concept of "subtlety" occurred.

I *so* agree.
One of our 7th graders here in Sulphur Springs won tickets in Rowling's lottery to see her at Carnegie Hall ... his mom went with him and they were going to the event Friday night and then do the tourist thing ... they're due back today. I can't wait to hear what they have to say about.
Rowling has always written about acceptance. I don't see this as a ploy ... just another dimension to Dumbledore's character.

She is trying to force an agenda now and it becomes preachy. Trying to stir up excitement, as if there needed to be any more around this book. I read the first few and then got extremely bored. I can see it being great for kids, but it was a little weird when adults began going crazy over it. The first one was okay, but then she used the same exact formula for every story. Maybe it's just me, but I like writers who try to outdo their last book, not rewrite it. It was great marketing, not great writing.
"Great writing" is just as nonexistent as "great films" and "great music". It's all subjective to everyone. What you see as "great marketing" others see as "great writing", and vice versa.

I haven't read any of the books or seen any of the movies. If one of the characters is gay, who gives a s***?

because a segment of adults do not accept be gay as being okay. and the last thing they want their children exposed to is the idea that gay people exist.
my mom volunteers at a elementary school and helps out in the library. there hardly is a day there isn't some parent in complaining about the harry potter books and demanding they be removed. and its not a case of please do not allow my child to read them, but that NO child should be allowed to read them.

I have nothing against a parent controlling what a minor child reads, although I still think it's often short-sighted to do so.
However, no one else gets to tell me what MY child is allowed to read.

I may live in the east, but I can guarantee you that the radical liberals would probably prefer if I moved somewhere else.
but then again I object to radical right wingers, too....
an enigma, I know....

I read BRIDGE OF BIRDS to ABQKeet when he was growing up ... it's full of a variety of characters ... and he loved it ... I'm sure it would have never passed muster with the censors.
We also made sure he had all the Hardy Boys books, too.
We didn't ban anything ... as a result, he reads. A lot.
I would have encouraged him to read Harry Potter.

Mine have never had anything banned, either. But then, I'd almost agree to PLAYBOY if it would get two of my three to at least read the captions....

Best line ever from an ex-boyfriend- "I really do read Playboy for the articles- I have the internet for p***." And then the blood drained from his face and I got the "Oh crap, that was my out loud voice, I think I just blew it" look.
