That just breaks my heart...and I know there are so many stories just like it.

She's right...it will leave a lasting impression. It's not something you can forget...ever. I pray that those who have never gone through a firestorm never will have to.

As a dog and horse lover this really hits home. I just can't imagine the horror she went through. My own horse is also an Arabian who has the most gentle spirit. The memorial was beautiful although hard to read through the tears. What beautiful horses! May she find peace in the memories and comfort in the ones she was able to save.
Many thoughts and prayers to all affected by these horrible fires.

Good news...bad news. First the good. All the fires in San Diego county are now contained....not extinguished, but contained and are no longer spreading. Bad news....forecast in for another Santa Ana wind event this weekend.

Forecasters *say* the Santa Anas shouldn't be as bad as last time...but then again they said that last time too. They aren't taking any chances though, strike teams have been mobilized throughout all potential burn areas. I was in Eaton Canyon today, well, the part you could still access. The trails out of the canyon are closed, the roads/trails up to Mt. Wilson are closed, Angeles Crest is closed, Santa Anita Canyon is closed...all the places I was planning on going to. And sky cranes and spotter choppers were patroling all over the place all day. Eaton Canyon is really dry, and the new houses built on the cliffs after the last firestorm have NO brush clearance around them. :-? Judging by the looks and size of these houses, I'd venture a guess they are owned by Chinese immigrants who weren't in this country during the last firestorm...and who have no clue how serious this is.
