I found out last night that they have been evacuated. I don't know where they are staying and I don't have any more information than that.Brown Eyed Girl wrote:Yes, Carlsbad is roughly where the 78 and 5 meet, in that shaded area.buffettbride wrote:I don't know the geography that well. We have lots of other areas affected in SoCal, and lots of friends too.

As of a cpl minutes ago. Some areas of Poway are being allowed back. (My Prayers to you David and I hope that includes you). There has been a second fatality to go with 7 firefighter injuries and nearly 20 civilian injuries. It appears that the devil winds are beginning to slow a bit in the south county. That being said the Harris fire in the south county has consumed 200 homes and damaged another 250. It is currently bearing down on parts of Spring Valley and Chula Vista...both very populated areas. The fires in the central county are moving quickly from the Escondido into parts of the Elffin Forrest and Rancho Santa Fe. This fire has destroyed or damaged some 750 homes. (hopefully David's is not one of them). In the north county there are 2 fires now. Currently the entire city of Fallbrook is being evacuated and all roads in are closed. all roads out open only. It is moving towards Oceanside. The new fire is on the La Jolla Indian reservation. Not to be confused with the city of LaJolla...which in along the coast. LaJolla Indian reservation on along the Riverside County border north of Vista/Fallbrook. President Bush as authorized military units to help outside of SD county and it is being reported that firefighting C-130's are on the way from as far off as North Carolina. Also FEMA has showed up now as a result of the Presidents action and they delivered thousands of carts to Qualcomm stadium where nearly 60,000 evacuees are staying. They are said to start issuing checks today...we'll see
. I'll post more as it becomes available.

I did find out today that my jack russell buddy lost everything.....five of her eight horses, her home, her out buildings....all gone.
She's getting hooked up with the red cross now and trying to find a place to be, but it's hard with her animals......so keep Rhonda in your prayers....
I can't begin to imagine.

Paige, which fire area was she in?
More resources on their way. The Martin Mars WWII era flying boat that Cal Fire has contracted with is on its way down to join Tanker 10. WOW. Wish I could see this in action under better circumstances. I believe it is the same one that has been based up here in Angels Camp in the past, the Hawaii Mars. I'll try to get more confirmation of that.

This is all so sad. It must be frightening for people who live there and have family/friends there.

I read the BYU/SDSU game was postponed and the Chargers are practicing in Arizona.

From all the info I have been able to pull up, Santee looks like it was out of the evacuation zones. I've gone thru an area by area search and haven't come up with anthing relating to Santee, either evacs, closures or fire. On the google fire maps it looks to be unscathed, and many of the evac orders nearby have been lifted.SMLCHNG wrote:![]()

Just got word that my cousin has just gotten home. Not sure if he had any damage to his property, should know more tomorrow.
I just read that they are estimating that ONE MILLION people have been evacuated (from all counties affected), based on average number of people per house and number of houses evac'd.

***Penny, Santee has been spared the rath of this disaster. They ought to be fine.***
The latest as of 7:30 PM. After maxing out at 517,000 homes evacuated or roughly 1 in every 3 in the county, some 50,000 were told it was safe to return. However, an estimated 1,200 homes were burned to the ground and many many more damaged. Today the winds began to shift, first in the south county and then slowly north. The on-shore wind that we get most of the time in SD has returned, spelling and end to the Santa Ana...but not the danger. Now the fire is being blown to the east and southe east. These prevailing winds are very erratic and unpredictable. Fires still rage in all the same areas and a new one has broken out in Julian, a small mountain community. In 2003 it took a month to extinguish the Cedar fire. My guess it will be closer to Thanksgiving than Halloween to put these out.
