SoCal Fires..

It's bad, folks....and probably going to get worse. I've lost count of the number of fires, they literally are popping up by the hour, if not by the minute. So much attention has been focused on Malibu...but it is far worse in many other areas.
This is the second time in a week that fire has prevented me from getting down there to be with my family. With fires burning on both sides of the interstate and wind gusts recorded at 108 mph in the canyon, it's just too risky at the moment.
I'm especially worried about my family and our BN friends in the San Diego area, and I am sure there are members in other areas affected as well. I hope they will check in when they can. Please keep them in your prayers and send all the phin power you have to SoCal and to all the firefighters who are facing unimaginable conditions.
I was getting live video feeds via the 'net (like Mal, I don't have cable)...but all of them have pooped out for some reason. It's really frustrating.

I've been worried too...for my BN family as well as my extended "work" family. We have a lot of offices in that area. Have already heard from a couple admins out there who have logged into the network via their home computers that their office is closed. Very worrisome indeed.

Awww Paige....please tell her she's in my prayers.
The footage of folks trying to evacuate with a horse or two tied behind their pickup trucks, dogs in the bed, moving at a crawl were heartbreaking. They've been trying to get those with horses to begin their evac procedures early. It's awful to see horses, llamas and other wild and domesticated animals fleeing for their lives.
The national news coverage doesn't begin to cover the actual devastation. It's so much worse. Over 250,000 people are being evacuated from SD county alone....and tens of thousands more in the other fires.
Welcome to Hell....

From Gary Seiler's website (
http://www.garyseiler.com)
Up Date Noon Monday Oct 22nd:
Fires are devastatingly out of control!
In the San Diego county area alone over 250,000 homes have been evacuated.
I just climbed up a hill in Carlsbad (near my folks home and where Audrey lives) to see what it looks like and there is smoke almost 360 degrees around Carlsbad with two or three fires threatening this area. Fires are still several miles away but with the winds around 25 mph in this area and with gusts up to 40 mph there is no safety net. I'm not ashamed to admit this one has me scared. There is no let up in sight for the next five days with the weather. High temps around 100 degrees with high winds and fires is not a good situation. The fire fighting planes can not leave the ground right now because of the wind and visiblity issues and there is not much anyone can do except for to evacuate.
Pray people!!! Please pray!
Many of you will remember the fires that hit San Diego four years ago. If I remember correctly, in San Diego County alone, over 800,000 acres burned and over 3,000 homes were destroyed by fire...
Well it's happening here again as I write this and things are out of control all over the Southern California area.
Evacuations of well over 100,000 people from suburban areas... It's feared at this time that this fire will be much worse then the fires of October 2003. Temperatures will reach in the mid 90s this week and the Santa Ana winds are gusting up to 80 MPH. This means air support to fight the fires will be very limited.
I live 3 blocks from the beach more than 20 miles from the fires and the air quality here is terrible. Smoke and ash are so thick... the sky is brown filled with smoke. It's as if the world was burning.
All fire fighters and police officers have been called to duty. The Governor has already declared Southern California as a disaster area...
We need prayers from everyone. Safety for people is the first concern... this is a horrible situation.

Over 250,000 evacuated and more expected. Fox News reports that as many as 400,000 could be evacuated by nightfall. The final damage bill will likely be over $1 billion.

My son is in the Solano College Fire Academy, and has just graduated from the Wildland Fire Academy. Frankly, and selfishly, I am glad he hasn't finished yet ... This one scares me.
