Liberty-Longing Lobsters on the Lam

Post by Bubbaphan »

:o

From Spiegel:

Dozens of lobsters destined to be boiled alive made a successful getaway from an Asian supermarket in the German city of Stuttgart in the early hours of Sunday morning, police said.

The clawed crustaceans, some of them up to 15 centimeters long, managed to crawl out of their crates, which had been poorly secured with wire mesh, then scurried across the floor of the supermarket and squeezed through the metal shutters covering the front of the store. The front door had been left open by mistake.

"The breakout was successful," Katrin Brandeis, spokeswoman for the Stuttgart police, told SPIEGEL ONLINE. "Passers by alerted the police at 1:45 a.m. reporting a large number of the animals heading down the street."

The escape may have saved their lives. "These animals weren't ever going to be pets," Brandeis said. "Now they've been taken to an animal home. The supermarket hasn't got in touch with us."

Run, little lobsters, run. Or whatever it is that lobsters do when they're in a hurry. :pirate:

And that's why I don't eat lobster; because it looks like it could, at any given moment, get up the gumption and run off my plate.
Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.
I accept the new found man, and I set the twilight reeling.

This reminded me of an old Saturday Night Live skit or maybe it was some other talk show in NYC with "Larry" the Lobster. Should he be cooked or not? :D

Lobster.....yum!!!!!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Edit: never mind, my clever picture didn't upload for whatever reason, so I'm just going to say I miss Maine lobster.

mmmm....lobster...[Homer Simpson drool]

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

My ex- was a lobster fanatic--absolutely loved it. One night we're out to dinner with her dad and some other family members and the two of tem each get big ol' lobsters and dive in. (Me, I'm having salmon.) She convinces me to try it:

Her: What do you think?

Me: It doesn't taste like anything.

Her: Dunk it in the butter. (I do.) Well?

Me: It tastes like drawn butter.

And that's when it dawns on me. Much like celery is a tool to each blue cheese dressing with, much like shrimp cocktail is all about the cocktail sauce and not so much the shrimp, lobster exists to let us indulge in rich sweet creamy butter and not look foolish.

When the girls were younger, we would go to Boston Lobster Feast on special occasions.

All You Can Eat Lobsters!!!

They were never good at splitting the tails or cracking the claws, so I usually ended up doing it for them - we averaged over 30 lobsters between the six of us every time we went! :o

If you still have it there, I think my sister would consider going to Orlando to eat lobster, especially if it is from New England.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

I may have to ask for the site later but will let her know.
