BALTIMORE — A federal jury on Wednesday awarded the father of a fallen Marine $2.9 million in compensatory damages after finding an anti-gay Kansas church and three of its leaders liable for invasion of privacy and intent to inflict emotional distress for picketing the Marine’s funeral in 2006.
The jury was to begin deliberating the size of punitive damages after receiving further instructions, although U.S. District Judge Richard Bennett noted the size of the compensatory award “far exceeds the net worth of the defendants,” according to financial statements filed with the court.
Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified monetary damages after members staged a demonstration at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.

These people just get my bile up! There are a lot of unfriendly words I would like to express to them.
Anyone who believes is supposed to believe God is not a vengeful God. God is supposed to be merciful. (12 years of Catholic school.)
The hate and intolerance they spew surely cannot be condoned by "their" god. (note the small "g".)
These freaks have been on Howard Stern and even he truly hates them.
May God have mercy on the souls of the men and women who have died defending these idiots rights. Too bad they pushed it so far.
Has anyone ever seen the motorcycle brigade that attends funerals with the flags flying solely for the purpose of blocking the family's view of Phelps' group. Truly moving stuff.

And 25+ years of Southern Baptist raising taught me to hate the sin, but love the sinner. To be supportive of our fellow man.blackjack wrote:Anyone who believes is supposed to believe God is not a vengeful God. God is supposed to be merciful. (12 years of Catholic school.)

We certainly do, Big John. Like the guys that beat the life out of a college kid and left him to die in a pool of blood at Kutztown University a month or so ago, about 7 minutes up the road from me. Came down from Allentown and just did it for no reason at all. Absolutely sick.big john wrote:The Snyders (the marine's family) live about 20 miles down the

a$$holes in Pennsylvania without importing them from Kansas.
Good for the Snyders---I had no idea people actually go protest at soldier's funerals. How messed up do you have to be to do that??? How messed up do you have to be to protest at ANYONE'S funeral??

So I just went back and read the entire article, and this phrase:
"Church members believe that U.S. deaths in the war in Iraq are punishment for the nation’s tolerance of homosexuality."
.....is insane. With that sort of logic, then I should be the successor after the Queen of England dies, simply because she and I both like tomatoes on a sandwich.
As Ron White says, "You can't fix stupid".
