Vespa anyone?

As most phans know Chicago has some of the highest gas prices in the country. I read a little blurb about a Vespa. I have a lot of questions about this. They get about 100 miles to the gallon. The Vespa website just has pictures. not much about shifting gears and the like. Can someone help me. They look like a good alternitive to my gas guzzler.

Are you gay or a female college student?

Scooters can be fun, and they're definitely easier on the gas budget. The ones I've ridden have all been automatic or single speed, so there is no gear shifting involved.

Yamaha has a decent spec sheet on their Zuma line on their website, a lot of the general stuff applies to the Vespas as well;

Talk to INGA about scooters [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

I've thought about them but it was a fleeting thought. I don't know if they are highway worthy and in some metropolitan areas wouldn't you need to get on the highway some time? I know I would. I've never seen on on the highway.

Personally if I'm gonna risk road rash I'm gonna pick something with a little more oomph.

Also my son works for a Harley dealership - he would kill me if I got a Vespa

A scooter in the Windy City?

You'll freeze your Vespa off in the winter, that's for damn sure.

Would it be worth it, figuring in the price of the scooter and the amount of months per year you'd be able to use it? Sometimes, it looks like you'd save money, but it's actually not the case.

And can you deal with either windblown- or helmet- hair?

With the Zuma, $500 bumps it up to 70cc pushing 60mph.
That's hauling ass for what it is...

We've got a friend who rides his bike all winter long in the Seattle area - it's rare that he'll lower himself to ride in a car. He's ridden on snow/ice covered streets

Some people are just die hard riders and that's it

Seems a little dangerous on 8-inch wheels....

that's not bad at all - it's a doable highway speed. They're kinda cute. My son would kill me though

Some on bikes, yes. I don't think there's such a critter as a die-hard-scooter-rider. Ok, I just got an image of John McClane on a scooter.

I can think of much better uses for a pair of C batteries.
