Sure, the folks we help like us, but the merchants see it as another chance to gouge the gringos, the Crawl gets old after your 1st one, and maybe if the Casa had to scramble to sell rooms a couple years between Fantasy Fest and the Boat Races, they might actually have a better attitude.
I agree RR! I would like to see it held someplace different! New Orleans,Vegas and the Gulf Coast of Florida or Alabama all sound good to me! :D

I want former colonials, I'll take Canada. Shorter trip, money at par, and I can fake the accent of a Manitoban.

perhaps, perhaps not. There might be a way out of the contract. I would think that PHiP was pretty gracious this year putting up with the crap. There has to be a "out" clause.

From the club leaders list - they seem to be happy with it ...

club leaders make up 5% of a club membership at best. It's not like the sample is very broad for an opinion poll

John,

I hate to disagree with you, man...but in my reading of the boards and talking with folks, I'd say the comments are running 80-90% positive. Most of the folks who were unhappy about the CRB not showing who still *went*, had a wonderful time. There were some legitimate issues with the Casa, but anyone who just stays at the Casa misses a lot. And the De Walts say they're working on those issues for next year.

I *like* Key West, crowds and all. I like being able to walk everyplace I need to go, and I like having things scattered somewhat around town.

Granted, I also enjoyed Migration in Vegas this past summer, and there's somewhat to be said for an event that stays in one place. But it's definitely not the same flavor of vacation.

Margaritaville Casino in Biloxi might be interesting, with a day trip to N'awleans.[/quote]

You've been talking to different people than I have then. I haven't heard anyone say much nice about the Casa Marina this year. There are many people in our club who are not planning to register next year because they have no desire to go to the Casa.

Simple economics - money at part is not better than where your dollar is stronger.

Well, I can't say I've heard a lot of good things about the *Casa*...but like I said, the Casa ain't the whole shooting match. :) I've never stayed there for MOTM, and probably wouldn't - I like being closer to Old Town. And the majority of interesting stuff happens in town, not at the Casa.

And I can't say I'm totally thrilled with the new Casa - less shade, for one thing. And the stuff with the chairs was doubtless annoying to the folks who had to deal with it, and really self-defeating. But the drinks weren't priced any higher than anyplace else on the Rock, and the food wasn't too hideously priced down by the pool, and that's really all I needed, the two times I spent any time down there this trip.

Hmmm....maybe there's another hotel on that side of Key West that might be interested in having us...

I may have misinterpreted Pirate John's comments. I thought he was saying that people were mostly complaining about *MOTM* in general, not just the Casa. I haven't heard many complaints about MOTM. But admittedly, the lion's share of those had to do with the Casa, and the under-endowed idiot who felt like he might be able to compensate for any other "shortcomings" with the "Parrotheads Go Home" truck. I just smiled and waved my pinkie at him. :)

As a first timer, my observation was the same - since I couldn't afford the auction this year (one thing I would have wanted to go to otherwise) and still got to meet up with people I wanted to see OUTSIDE the Casa, I don't feel there will be any need in the future to pay the $75 for registration. All the bands played out elsewhere so I was able to pretty much hear them all anyway. This is not to say that I don't appreciate all the effort that went into it on the part of the DeWalts and others who worked to put it together and OK it was cool to get Lulu's autograph on my new Lulu's T-shirt but assuming I go back next year I don't think I'll register - there just didn't seem to be any big advantage to it. And $75 would buy a lot of drinks and food elsewhere. Just my $.02 Oh, and for the record the "chair" thing didn't come into play for me one way or the other, the few hours I hung at the Casa I sat at a table with a few other BN'ers with no issues.

again.. a lot smaller group, and the survey sample is skewed by that. whether they are the decision-makers or not, the fact that a lot more folks had a bad experience than is possible for the PHiP board, should affect the decision-making process.

I can't ever go to MOTM unless they change the date or we have an election in the winter again, but I completely edorse the idea of moving the phlocking around to all the M'villes.
And thanks for the support of Canucks, R2! Tequila or beer or rum goes just fine with snow and flannels!

I get free accomodation .. and get taken to all the good things cause of people I know there ...

but then - sure I can swing it elsewhere

I just scored a bucket load of free shares in the stock market - just watching them grow - MOTM fund for 08 8)

you want to talk about this from a club leader point of view, fine. You want to talk about this as a general concept, fine. Certainly sounded like "you're not a club leader so your opinion counts for less" to the rank and file attendees in your posts. The reality is that there are contracts, yes. But both parties have to fulfill their portion of the agreement. Failing that, one or both parties can be released from that contractual agreement without repercussion. So if the Casa can't do a better job than was evidenced by statements not on your Leader boards, statements made by just regular rank-and-file members of PHiP, then perhaps the leadership should listen.

Attendence was down this year, not because of the service, but if it is this marginal and the attitude toward us is what it appears to be, how many of those folks are going home and talking to members of their home clubs about the bad experience? That happens too often, and attendence is permanently down, and the cash from registration fees drops, and the spiral starts to just bagging it altogether. Thus it might behoove the crew in charge to take positive action to prevent a repeat.

As for proving me wrong, all you did was demonstrate your lack of understanding for statistical sampling.
