I agree RR! I would like to see it held someplace different! New Orleans,Vegas and the Gulf Coast of Florida or Alabama all sound good to me! :D

and I get paid a LOT of money to do statistics ..... my head is full of ones I need to do ....

and Wayne - probably right - but people over analyze things - I had a good time - it could be in Timbuktu - so long as the people I hung with were there!

And I will apologise for the apparent tone of my posts - if it sounds like bickering - but I am sick - and I dont tolerate some things well when I am sick 8)

BTW - quite a few years back - common opinion on the club leaders board was that they change it to another place - to an all inclusive island - but everyone wanted it to stay in KW ....

Damned if they do, damned if they dont thing - not everyone will be happy and in the end

EVERYONE has a different view - does not mean that each persons is exclusivley right ...

that being said - the sooner the rest of the world thinks the same way I do - it will be a better place ...

exactly. "Why try at all when we have these idiots locked in for two more years of abuse." appears to be the attitude.

As for the idea of an all-inclusive resort being shot down, yeah... I can see that. KW has the Jimmy tie. So does NO, and probably Myrtle Beach. Can't speak for the latter, but the former has a good airport, and is relatively central. Too, they do understand liquor, and have good local music. Put that together with a large hotel room population and you should be good there. some all-inclusive resort, not so much on the key thing: the tie-in.

Time to Reconsider?

Quite a few years ago, the Casa Marina was a great place to hold MOTM. Things have changed drastically since then. It may be time to reconsider all the options.

My main concern about NO would be a safety issue - I *like* being able to wander around town without worrying about getting mugged or worse. Worst thing that's likely to happen on the average KW night is either tripping over a chicken or having some drunk in a bar take a dislike to me. Which is something that could happen anywhere. :)

I think that keeping it someplace *warm* and at least semi-tropical would be good. Keeping it inside the US minimizes passport issues for the vast majority of attendees; that said, I have a passport, so I'd be willing to travel elsewhere...Barbados, maybe? :) Keeping it someplace that can be driven to from within the US, ditto.

Anyone for Orlando? Yes, DizzyWorld is there, and that's not a positive thing. But there's a M'ville in town, and maybe the potential for day trips to Kennedy Space Center or the Nav-A-Gator.

Or we could just get a bunch of sleep-aboard buses and start in NO and travel to KW, stopping in a different interesting place along the Gulf every night. :)

I totally understand that some people were annoyed with the CASA this year - not something I dwell on - there are bigger things to worry about than a few days of my year .....

That being said - I dont agree with MOTM being at Vegas or New Orleans. Been to NO and the place just scares me - too much crime. I am from a place with not a big crime rate - and it is not something I would see as fun.

So .. there were 3000 people approx registered this year .... a few hundred withdrew and some did not show ....

Over at least the past 10 years - to allow for a variation of 20-30 percent in the people that go (even to allow 10 percent) - means we are looking at 6000+ (based on 10) that have been in 10 years - what portion of this pool has been analysed by the statistical masters to suggest that the majority of people want it moved [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Club Leaders board represents a majority of the people going - as it is a CLUB event ...... and while there are obv disgruntled people there - cause that is the only vacation they have all year - there is no call at this stage to move it - so suggests to me - that the pool of people active about it is a small one.

Again - too much analysing on things that are fun .............. I dont let things like that worry me ..... I would worry more about getting killed in NO than someone not letting me sit on a chair by a pool

who said it was a majority? your claim that the PHiP board and the Club Leaders are the Majority when the average club might have 10 officers in it out of 100-200 members. Granted, not all 100-200 would go, but not all 10 officers might make it either... Then the question falls: have attendees been asked about their experience, or is it simply a "well, we are the leaders, we wrote the contract, and that is that". I certainly don't remember being asked about my experiences in the last 4, and as I have said before, "maybe it is time for KW to go without us for a couple years, it might improve their attitude, especially at the host hotel."

Dang...missing a good talk here!
Big problem this year was no CRB that we had come to expect.
and the Casa did kinda stink.

Our photographers national convention (PPA) which is a huge convention was stuck in Vegas for years and people started not to go so they started moving it around the country and attendance picked up alot.

and its stuck at the casa for 2 more years? Gee whiz, just in time for Jimmy's casino to open....thats where it will move to. Dont think anyone will ask us tho.

At the end of the day ...

if you dont like MOTM in Key West and HAVE To go on your vacation to Buffett things ...

then go to one of the other things there is going around.

If you feel REALLY strongly about MOTM cause that is your whole love for the year - then go join your club board - have a voice at PHIP ...

I go cause of friends ....... I go on vacation where I want to go .... if a place I was going to did not do what I wanted - then I would go somewhere else .... and I have never stayed at the CASA - even when I had to find accom - just dont need to spend the stupid amt of dollars they charge on a bed ....

And I think not that many people hung at the CASA ... I only hung there this year cause that is where the free drinks were for me [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

talking here is not gonna do a thing .....

toodleooooooo

I have not read all of the posts on the move thing so forgive me if this has been said in a previous post.
I agree with most of the posts I read about New Orleans...too much crime right now. I also heard that there is not really enough places for all of the bands to play.

Las Vegas was mentioned. That would not be as much fun because of the lack of places for all of the bands to play. One of the fun things about Key West is the availability of seeing anyone in any particular bar at any particular time. I don't think that would happen in Las Vegas.

Having said that...Migraton was a blast, but I could not really enjoy the last 2 bands. I was wiped out. The heat and the beer caught up to me. All of the bands played in one day, and they started around 11am and went until 10, or 11. It was a long day. Hopefully they will break it up a little next year (sorry-back to MOTM).

The Carolina's were mentioned...I can't really say anything about that because I have never been there.

An Island, or all inclusive resort was also talked about. Again you need the space for all of the bands to play. If it is at just one hotel over the course of a week it would not be as much fun. Once again...the really fun thing about KW is the ability to bar hop all day and all eveing. Different bands playing at the same time. All of the mixing and matching of different band members throughout the week is always fun. You never know when TC, Tall Paul,or Fingers will come walking in to sing or play with the band you are watching.

Orlando????? Forget it. I can't even imagine MOTM being in Orlando. At least in KW you can take a sunset cruise with a live band (such as Eric Stone).

I have thought about it and the only other place I could think of that would work would be Ringling, Montana (just kidding).

I really can't think of a better place than KW for this event to be held. If you don't like it, or want something different try out one of the other events such as Migration in Las Vegas, or Mid Winter Meltdown in Virginia (I think). They also had a trop rock festival in Tennessee last year. I don't know if that is annual, or not.

Thanks for reading this far! :D

:D :D This was our first trip to MOTM and we thought everything was fabulous. No complaints what so ever... Didn't stay at the Casa, stayed at the Hyatt. Only went to the Casa once. Had an absolutely grand 'ol time every where else. The bars were a riot... also snorkeled and cruised the sunset as well as stayed a couple extra days to watch the boat race. This was the best vacation we've ever had. :D :D
