I didn't say they are the same thing. They are completely different. I just said they would still be in trouble. And I do have firearms training, and I do know the rules. I am not saying what they did was right, in fact it was completely wrong. Just pointing out my original statement, that if someone in the public service does anything fun, they are in trouble.Catch&Release wrote:Hanging out at a tailgate in civilian clothes posing with people holding squirt guns is the equivalent of being in a department issued uniform while allowing a scantily clad waitress to use your department issued tactical automatic weapon as a toy or prop? And then having the poor judgment to take photos of the incident? You're right, they're exactly the same thing.V-town Fin Truck wrote:People in public service are not allowed to have fun. Everyone who has ever taken any firearm training knows that the first rule of firearm safety is to treat every firearm as though it is loaded. Be it a .22 rifle or be it a military style automatic weapon. You NEVER point a loaded or unloaded weapon as a joke. Also, guns and alcohol NEVER, EVER, EVER belong together. The officers allowing their guns to be treated like toys at a Hooters bar is astoundingly bad judgment.
A SWAT officer needs ability to make split second decisions about whether to shoot or not shoot. They need to have supreme powers of being able to use good judgment. A poor decision and when they barge into a house as their job requires is the difference between shooting someone who is armed or not armed.
I guess I am shocked that people wouldn't understand this.
If any of those officers ever was sued for excessive force, Exhibit 1 at the trial would be the photo of the girl being allowed to use the team's firearm as a toy. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you see how this SWAT team is really just a drunken fraternity..." would be the implication. It is an implication created by the acts of those officers.

And I am completely serious. Not the same thing, yet still in trouble. I guarantee it.Wino you know wrote:PLEASE tell me you're not serious.V-town Fin Truck wrote:People in public service are not allowed to have fun. This is widely known by people in public service. I have plenty of friends who are cops and firemen. Some even work for the FBI. I have seen them all on their down time in regular clothes having fun(within the law) and have never heard of any of them being in trouble. That sounds like an issue in a specific department.

In 23 years of law enforcement, I had lots of fun....there were lots of pictures....I never got in trouble.
I knew the uniform meant business and the Buffett t-shirt meant play......
It's a pretty simple equation.

I wish it was that simple everywhere... My department isn't bad at all, but in a lot of places a guy can't go out and have a good time in his own town. You just see so many cases where someone did something in fun, and has to apoligize to the world and find a new career over it.flipflopgirl wrote:YUP!!!!!!!pbans wrote:In 23 years of law enforcement, I had lots of fun....there were lots of pictures....I never got in trouble.

And everybody who has said it is absolutley right. Those guys had no business handing over the guns to the Hooters girls. I know if I had a gun at a bar they would be putting me in jail real quick....
