BTW, the NY Daily News is reporting the Tigers may be thinking of trading Willis already because of "payroll limitations."

I was watching the news this morning while I was getting ready to leave for the train station. They showed an interview with Jim Leyland at the winter meetings and his cell phone rang while he was talking. His ringtone is "Sweet Caroline." You'd think he'd have some classic Motown instead of a Red Sox song.

so in the last three years the Tigers trade away 3 of the top 25 best young pitchers in baseball and will end up with nothing to show for it in 2008 but a fat slow 3rd basemen and an over the hill DH who can barely stay healthy.LIPH wrote:I was watching the news this morning while I was getting ready to leave for the train station. Jon, you are the only person in the world who thinks Cabrera is a "fat slow 3rd baseman". Most people think he's pretty darn good.drunkpirate66 wrote:so in the last three years the Tigers trade away 3 of the top 25 best young pitchers in baseball and will end up with nothing to show for it in 2008 but a fat slow 3rd basemen and an over the hill DH who can barely stay healthy.LIPH wrote:I was watching the news this morning while I was getting ready to leave for the train station. I think they realize that because of his bad year this season, his earning capacity was down. They are counting on a couple of good years, then they will ask for A-Rod money.BottleofRum wrote:

Looks like the Reds want Rios, too. May be considering throwing Homer Bailey to the Jays

He'd be cheaper than Santana, he's younger and it would add another bat to the lineup on the days he pitches.BottleofRum wrote:The rumor us the Mets want Willis.LIPH wrote:I was watching the news this morning while I was getting ready to leave for the train station. At least they wouldn't be forced to take a "slow, fat third baseman" as part of the deal, like Detroit was. Bet the Tigers are wondering how they'll ever dump that guy.LIPH wrote:He'd be cheaper than Santana, he's younger and it would add another bat to the lineup on the days he pitches.BottleofRum wrote:The rumor us the Mets want Willis.LIPH wrote:I was watching the news this morning while I was getting ready to leave for the train station. no everyone knows that he is fat and slow. those are facts. he is also pretty good. that is a fact, too.CaptainP wrote:Jon, you are the only person in the world who thinks Cabrera is a "fat slow 3rd baseman". also a fact . . . can't have enough starting pitching. Detroit had 3 of the best. Now they don't. That is stupid; that is a fact.

It is pretty well knows that Cabrera is not a very good defensive third-baseman. I wouldn't be suprised to see him playing first in the not so distant future.CaptainP wrote:Jon, you are the only person in the world who thinks Cabrera is a "fat slow 3rd baseman". P, Where did you hear this? I just cant see the Reds trading pitching to get hitting, much less another outfielder. The Reds desperately need pitching.CaptainP wrote:Looks like the Reds want Rios, too. May be considering throwing Homer Bailey to the JaysConchRepublican wrote:jonesbeach10 wrote:How recent is that? KBME in Houston is reporting that the Astros are close to acquiring SS Miguel Tejada from the Orioles for SS Adam Everett, 2B Chris Burke and a pitcher.

Do you have a link?
I think Matsui has a no-trade clause but you would think he would waive it to go to SF.
I wonder if this means they will go for another OF like Aaron Rowand.
