Do you have a link?

I think Matsui has a no-trade clause but you would think he would waive it to go to SF.

I wonder if this means they will go for another OF like Aaron Rowand.

Yes, Matsui does have a NTC.

Rowand makes sense for NY, and now that Jones has landed in LA they'll need to move on him. He won't be cheap.

The bidding for Japanese OF Kosuke Fukudome is heating up...with the Cubs and Padres leading the way.

Cubs are bidding somewhere between $12-$15 Million.
Unclear what the Padres have offered, but they list it as one of the highest in team history.

Rumor has it that Joe Nathan could also be shopped by the Twins.

The least piece to the puzzle, a 36 year old catcher who had hamstring problems last year. But if they could have gotten him for a reasonable price on a 1 or 2 year deal I would like to have seen the Mets bring him back.

Lo Duca is pretty good at working with pitchers . . . an undervalued talent for catchers IMO . . .

is Zaun sticks around they would make a good tandem . . . elderly . . . but good.

THE most important talent for catchers, IMO

It's one reason that Damien Miller (current backup in Milwaukee) is so valuable.

Would be nice if that skill was more easily judged . . . some of the best baseball players ever have been catchers who do not get credit for this skill that we, amazingly, agree on.

Part of the reason why I am such a Tek fan.

(all I want for Christmas is HOF/ Tek joke . . . ) :D

A man walks into a bar with a dog. The bartender says, "You can't bring that dog in here."

"You don't understand," says the man. "This is no regular dog, he can talk."

"Listen, pal," says the bartender. "If that dog can talk, I'll give you a hundred bucks."

The man puts the dog on a stool, and asks him, "What's on top of a house?"

"Roof!"

"Right. And what's on the outside of a tree?"

"Bark!"

"And who's the greatest baseball player of all time?"

"Ruth!"

"I guess you've heard enough," says the man. "I'll take the hundred in twenties."

The bartender is furious. "Listen, pal," he says, "get out of here before I belt you."

As soon as they're on the street, the dog turns to the man and says, "Do you think I should have said 'Jason Varitek?"

another version is:

The dog takes the hundred bucks and runs outside.

The bartender says, "Hey is your dog humping that poodle?"

"The guy says "Yeah" and then yells "Hey, I never saw you do that before!"

And the dog responds, "I never had a hundred bucks!"

At work a few of us were talking about this today, active players only, who has the most world series rings? I came up with 5 players who have 4 rings. I think 4 is the most? And only 5 players have 4.

Anyone want to guess the 5?

Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera are the obvious choices. I'm stumped on the other three

BTW, the NY Daily News is reporting the Tigers may be thinking of trading Willis already because of "payroll limitations."
so in the last three years the Tigers trade away 3 of the top 25 best young pitchers in baseball and will end up with nothing to show for it in 2008 but a fat slow 3rd basemen and an over the hill DH who can barely stay healthy.
Jon, you are the only person in the world who thinks Cabrera is a "fat slow 3rd baseman". Most people think he's pretty darn good.
no everyone knows that he is fat and slow. those are facts. he is also pretty good. that is a fact, too.

also a fact . . . can't have enough starting pitching. Detroit had 3 of the best. Now they don't. That is stupid; that is a fact.
You're a poopyhead. That's a fact. :P
I would like to see stats and a source on that . . . before I agree or disagree . . .
How 'bout we just put it up to a vote?

Oh, I know he does. It's just funny. I'm 36 and I still giggle at the word "poopy". Growing older but not up....
