A once almost playoff bound team continues make stupid decisions. Sorry. Brewers are now shoing why they haven't put together a playoff team in some time . . . I loved the 2007 Brewers and pulled for them.

Don't be so sure it's a bad pickup. This is an injury that typically takes 2 years to come back effectively from.

Not to mention that he's always pitched better as a closer than in a setup role. He's of the old-school mentality. Turns it up when the game is on the line.

P, you are far too smart about baseball to believe that. David Riske and Erica Gagne are bad signings . . . the only thing I will say is that the NL Central is way easier to pitch in then the AL East. Otherwise, good luck with that. Better score alot of runs . . .

For whatever, reason the guy reminds me a lot like Armando Benitez. And you know I don't mean that in a good way. I'm guessing they use him as a 6th/7th inning guy when they need a big strikeout? Not sure what type of pitcher he's supposed to be. I think he was a closer at some point though.

Just so you all can see that I can admit mistakes . . . Kevin Mench was released by the Brewers . . . which I , now, think is a good move.

Back when he played for Texas, the man who can claim the biggest head (the one on shoulders) in baseball, I felt, was a guy who was going to hit 30 homers and bat close to .300 yearly . . .

in fact, I thought Laynce Nix was going to be big too.

I'm not sure I'd trade my every day CF who can hit and run, leadoff and play great defense. Most importantly, Jacoby can play on the big stage that is Boston, thriving in the WS. Theo will hear it every time Coco grounds another one to 2nd or strikes out, while Ellsbury wins AL ROY in Minni.

If the choice is a gold glove caliber centerfielder Crisp AND Santana . . . versus one of the great young players, Elisbury, by himself I go with the first choice.

I like Elisbury alot. But you cannot get pitching like Santana, hardly ever, so you take him. No hesitation. If the Sox sign Santan for five years that would be 250 draft picks in that time to get some more young talent. 250!

How many Johan Santana's do you get? Crisp is young. He is signed. He plays a great centerfield. He can run. The Sox already have power . . .

as great as Elisbury is . . . go with the Beckett, Santana, Dice, Schilling 1 -2 - 3 - 4 that is almost unbeatable in the playoffs.

They have a shot at getting a 28 year old pitcher who's well on his way to a Hall of Fame-worthy career for a 24 year old guy with a little more than 100 at bats in the major leagues. I couldn't make that deal fast enough.

Looking deeper into the deal I guess I'd change my mind. The rest of the package is infielder Jed Lowry and pitcher Justin Masterson, plus an unnamed 4th player. I saw Masterson's AA debut and he was all but unhittable with a nasty sinker/slider to go with a good fastball. He's mostly projected as a setup man. As long as the 4th isn't Lester or Buchholtz I'd do it. Lester wowed me in the 4th game of the WS. He and Buchholtz will slide in nicely when Schilling and Wakefield are gone.

Prospects are just prospects . . . I am sure that I could make a list of over 100 pitchers in the minors who got called up and were either really bad or became nothing more than number 4 starters or something to that end . . .

OR the Fransisco Liriano cases where they actually good and then throw their arms out before they pitch 300 innings in the majors . . .

a guy like Santana who goes out there every 5 days and dominates . . .
