There just seems to an automatic assumption that if your fav song is on there - that is all you know ...

He went to paris is one of mine - and it is on there 8)

but is that because that cheeseburger song is their favourite, or that the songs on the yellow album are all they know so their choices are limited by unfamiliarity?

wow...this has exploded.

i only meant, it seemed odd they consider themselves fans...and did not know the name of the song "that cheeseburger song". like r2 said, does that make them bad people, no. like i said, they were very nice.

i dont care what your fav song is. it just annoys me when people say they are jimmy fans and then add...he is that margaritaville guy, right? he sings that cheeseburger song.

i'm sorry i brought the issue up. :D

I was talking to a lady at work about Jimmy one day and she said that she loved him. She then said, "He sings that 'Hamburger in Paradise' song, right?"

    Now that's funny!!

I can call myself a 'fan' of a lot of musicians... but I may only be familiar with their most 'popular' song that gets a lot of airplay. Doesn't make it bad or good. It is what it is. :)

I am 50 something and I hate to tell you, but I was a Buffett fan before their were parrotheads or phans. Just people that identified with the music. And I would think people can have whatever song and whatever description for whatever reason as their whatever song! I have every single album and then every single CD and every single DVD and a ticket stub from every single year he toured, but maybe I wasn't at the concert that you thought was the "right" concert for that year. I have even been to a Jack Johnson concert without kids! I am a huge music fan. And to just be critical because maybe someone is older than you doesn't mean they should be criticized. Just remember two things, age is a state of mind . . . and . . . if you are lucky you will make it to that age!

plus, most parrotheads i know hate cip.

i am not bashing the couple, heck they even bought me a beer [smilie=coolup.gif] and were very nice. i just decided to change the subject .
I'm a James Taylor fan. Not a huge fan, but I enjoy listening to his music. I'd be hard-pressed to name five of his songs, but I know them when I hear them and I enjoy them. I'd be pretty p*ssed if some JT TRUE FAN bashed me because I didn't know every song. Same here... So WHAT if the guy doesn't know the songs. Are we so f'ing elitist that we can't accept casual fans??? If so, let me off this bus... please....

I often skip CIP on my iPod, but I like it in concert....

The Banana Pancake song is my favorite Jack Johnson song, I just don't happen to know the exact title right now:-) My favorite Buffett song is One Particular Harbor, probably written before you were born. Sorry to be so angry, but I think the mid-50 thing was the bummer. Hell Jimmy is almost exactly 10 years older than me and you are being critical of "old people" WTF. Not to be a pain but there is nothing wrong with any Buffett fan, whether they started "back in the day" or just today. I have never been critical of any Buffett fan, even those on the west coast that just sit at the concerts, because I have been told "they have a life", we all find something to relate to in Jimmy's music. I have always said that there is a Buffett song for every situation in life and I live my life by that and it has always rung true, from weddings to funerals to new loves to new births and on and on. So I guess the moral of my story is, be careful who you make mad, it might just be a Buffett fan! Sail on Sail on Sailors!

care to point out to me where i was critical about their age???????
i did not realize stating somebody was in the mid 50's was being critical.
i'm through with this thread. some people are way too sensitive.

again, sorry i brought it up.

It's just a 'sensitive' topic. ;) Don't be sorry, you had an observation you wanted to see how others felt. :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND PEACE TO ALL!

A woman recently received a parrot as a gift.

The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every
word out
of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

She tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently
saying
only polite words, playing soft music and anything else she could
think of
to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, she was fed up and yelled at the parrot.

The parrot yelled back.

She shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.

So, in desperation, she threw up her hands, grabbed the bird and put
him in
the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.

Then suddenly there was total quiet.

Not a peep was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that she hurt the parrot,

She quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto her outstretched arm and said

"I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions.

I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I
fully
intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable
behavior."

She was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.

As she was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic
change in
his behavior, the bird continued,

"May I ask what the turkey did?"

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS!

Don't be sorry.
Some people aren't happy unless they have something to b*tch about.

I'm guessing they probably like the songs of his they've heard, but the "cheeseburger song" is the only one they remember.

I don't understand people who actually ADMIT to liking that song, but, hey, to each their own.

I just wanted to bang me head against the bar.
These are the fans who make the tour we enjoy possible

Probably just trying to be neighborly to a new friend. Heck I listen to Buffett quite a bit. I got a cd player on my back prorch and in my garage and listen while I work outside. Jimmy's got a store here in Charleston and I drop by for a t-shirt every now an then. So I guess I'm a pretty devoted fan. But I gotta tell ya, I just don't pick up on those long song name acronyms other fans use on this website sometimes. I hope that doesn't make me any less of a fan. er..I am 60 though.

I work with a lady who has some margaritaville stickers on her vehicle and even a tag. Even a Bob Marley one. She says she's a parrothead but I always had to give her updates on tours and even album releases.
A couple of times I started talking about Buffett and she was lost so I just took it that she was a "credit card parrothead" as my buddy puts it and I never mention Buffett anymore.
The same could be said of me and a bunch of other artist's music though.

My personal favorite is the Pina colada Song :pirate: He doesn't play it live nearly enough.
