It's been almost 20 years since I put up a tree and I don't see that changing.

Between Dec 1 and 8. But the novelty of putting up a tree in my own house is starting to wear off. In other words, I'll let Edith do it.

I'm also annoyed that the Peanuts Christmas special is on before December. Good thing I have the DVD and can wait till around Dec 20th to watch it.

I just watched a christmas movie on TV last night - seems quite silly to be on so early!

And one of the teams at work already has their decorations up - they have obv not heard of the Dec 1 rule

especially if it $85 a bottle laurent-perrier brut rose that CDIII is having!!

winemaker's notes:

The best selling rosé Champagne in the world, Laurent-Perrier is one of the few rosés still made by the saignée method. To emphasize this traditional technique, the Champagne is bottled in an embossed bottle that is a reproduction of those used in the late 17th century.
This salmon-pink rosé Champagne is truly remarkable for its highly expressive bouquet, stemming from very careful preservation of fresh fruit aromas during the winemaking. Made with 100% pinot noir using skin contact, also known as the saignée method, Laurent-Perrier's know-how and attention to quality produces a finely crafted rosé with both depth and freshness. It has become the benchmark for rosé Champagne around the world.

Bright, fresh and intense, with notes of raspberries, strawberries and black cherries. [smilie=thatworks.gif]

It reduces my festive mood when it's done this early and overdone. I'm also tired of hearing about the boo hoo retail slump. It's such a let down when it's shoved down my throat. Appears forced fed. Thankfully, I've been able to count on one hand the houses in my area that have outside decorations.

It is a wonderful wine...we'll be enjoying shrimp cocktail and some nice cheeses with that Champagne that night! It's a special bubbly for us, since we had it right after CDIII proposed to me in Montauk! :D

No, not everyone is putting them up before labor day.
After this weekend they'll have the santas , lights, stars on trees, and stuff. At work I'll be getting the stolen property calls.

The best place in the NYC area for viewing decorations is in Dyker Heights Brooklyn.

Not yet. It will likely go up next weekend. Taking the kiddos to a play, Cinderella, this weekend, at the college theatre here.

Our theme is Early (or Late) Random.

no, but my roommate bought some foil tinsel and put in the Hisbiscus tree, does that count?

I honestly don't even know if we'll have a true. She's anti-religious and broke. GRR.

We get a real tree and usually do it the 2nd week of December so the tree stays fresh through Christmas. We'll probably do it THIS weekend, though, because the rest of our weekends through Christmas are filled with Victoria's performances. 2 performances per day through Christmas Eve.

What were we thinking???? :-?

A few days ago we took our tree back to Walmart.
We paid $55 for it and at the time it was the best looking tree we ever had. A couple of weeks after we got it and despite nonstop watering it started turning brown. About a week or so ago I started noticing preying mantis-like bugs here and there on the walls around the tree.
Just days later they mutiplied quick and were all over the ceiling, curtains, floor and all over and around the tree.
We called Walmart and they said to bring the tree back and they would "make it right". Once there and even without a receipt the manager said we could have any tree we wanted, real or artificial. Things is we did not want another live tree for the fear of it happening again so we got a big 7 1/2 ft pre-lit tree with clear lights.
The tree's price was $229.00 and they also let us have the bug spray of our choice. They asked if we wanted to file a complaint but we said we were more than happy with how they handled it.
Maybe it was a fluke because they said nobody else has had this problem.
I never cared much for artifiicals but this one looks real and it went up in minutes. I did not realize they had changed so much. Last one we had you had to plug every branch in but now they just fold down on hinges. The bug spray worked great and we were bug-free in minutes as well.

Sadly, my fake tree that I put up on Thanksgiving (wow the earliest ever!!!) had to come down last night. I remember now why I didn't put up a tree from last year. The tree (which actually only had lights, no ornaments) had become a jungle gym for our cats and an OSHA nightmare. Yes, Crazy Daisy got herself tied to the trunk of the tree last night with the strands of lights and couldn't get free. :o Lucky we were home and at least it was only her foot and not her neck. [smilie=meow2.gif] My sis in law suggested putting a tree on our deck and looking through the window to see it. Maybe next year. Lowes Hardware had REAL trees tonight for FREE!!! I thought maybe we should try a REAL tree and see if kitties still climbed it - sadly, that idea was vetoed.

Hurrah Sonofabeach for a a great story of customer service and alls well ends well. Hope the bugs are gone!

:o :o :o OMG, Michael!! What a nightmare!! Glad they made good on the problem. :)

Sorry the kitties and the tree were a problem, Janice. :-?

No tree, no cats, no bugs here.

I had a beautiful 6ft Fiber Optic tree, but unfortunately the Fiber Optic "lamp" just burned out this Christmas   (I thought I could take it apart and replace the bub, then I noticed that there was a "fan" to cool off the "bulb" and that the bulb wasn't a bulb)

Oh well, it still lights up, but now we'll need to put ornaments on it.
