MSNBC is reporting Evel Knievel had died.
A slow Friday afternoon sure turned into a busy news day.

Daredevil Evel Knievel died Friday, said his granddaughter. He was 69.
He had reportedly been in failing health for years, suffering from diabetes and a condition that caused scarring in his lungs.
Knievel underwent a liver transplant in 1999 after nearly dying of Hepatitis C. We're told he likely contracted the disease from a blood transfusion after one of his infamous spills.
Evel's rep tells TMZ, "The world has lost a one of a kind human being. Someone like this we'll never never see again." His rep told us that he had just spoken to Evel yesterday, and he wasn't feeling well.

Maybe they should shoot his ashes out over Snake River Canyon. Propulsion technology has come a long way since then so I'm pretty sure he would make it. I'm also pretty sure it's how he would have wanted it.
I'm drinking beer and watching Hot Rod again tonight in his honor...

It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

this is shocking and so saddening to me... he was a childhood hero of mine.
I grew up riding motorcycles and he was an icon.
Some years back, when my cousin told me Knievel was a regular customer at his pharmacy in Hillcrest
I purposely hung out just for the opportunity of meeting him.
The Evel Knievel I met that day was frail and smaller than I'd imagined.
I vouldn't believe he was hardly 60 then, but the arthritis had taken it's toll.
He was polite, but still full of bluster, joking about charging for an autograph.
I only wish there were digital cameras back then...

knew he was ill, but he was solid. Good days, bad days, he was still a guy who held your attention and gave it everything he had whenever he performed.

Appreciation: Evel Knievel, 1938-2007
To kids of a certain period — the heyday and then the decline of the moon-landing program — the star-spangle-wearing Knievel was like an astronaut, but more exciting for how briefly and dangerously he broke the bonds of the Earth. With every boast, promise, world record and broken bone, he became a bigger figure and graced more lunchboxes. Driven to top himself, he pushed motorcycle design, and his luck, by commissioning the Skycycle, a rocket-boosted cycle he would use for his most famous jump. Trying to clear the Snake River Canyon in Idaho in 1974, he was blown into the chasm when a malfunctioning parachute deployed. That the chute also saved his life — he escaped with minor injuries — was only some consolation.
Fly High Evel...may you finally blast off on that Rocketship to the Stars...
