Terry you will be so proud of me-a friend of mine made me a "mix tape" (or whatever you call it in 2009) of Steve Earle. I LOVE it!! :D

Good for you.

I haven't given up hope on an interview yet.

I told his press rep to tell him I was there Saturday night (the crowd was very appreciative and he noted it), I only need 15 minutes and I know where Cherokee County, Texas, is. (He mentioned that his father is buried there.) [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

Terry... I am so happy that you enjoyed the show. I have heard a couple
of the shows from this tour and really enjoyed them. Steve seems to be
really enjoying this tour.
It doesn't look like he is coming up this way this year....so I will
have to make do with listening to the shows when I come across them.

I just saw this on his site
On Tuesday July 7th, Steve Earle will be hosted by David Dye on National
Public Radio’s World Café.
He is also going to be one of the featured performers
on Cayamo 2010

Am running a piece on Steve's son, Justin Townes, this week ... man, what a story. The kid has got a LOT of talent ... he's only 27 ... three CDs ... and only one cover on the last one.

He was in Dallas at House of Blues recently, but I missed him. I sure hope to catch him the next time around.

Here's a clip of him and his dad doing TVZ's "Mr. Mud and Mr. Gold." What I wouldn't give to see the two of them play this live!

Justin Townes Earle won Best New & Emerging Artists at the AMA's in September in Nashville. I was lucky enough to attend one of his showcases. Check him out if you get a chance.

Justin Townes Earle is playing the Granada in Dallas on 2/6/10, which just happens to be my birthday!

Thank you for the links, Terry! I was just thinking about Justin the other day and wondering if I should try to make his show here in Houston at McGonigel's Mucky Duck on 2/5, Will Kimbrough will be there on 2/25- I'm definitely going to make that one. :D :D :D

In another attempt to expand my musical horizons, I'm going to see Steve Earle next month. I think I know 2 of his songs. Maybe 3.

KK: I put that link in my feature!

Larry: I think you'll like him ... if you like Guy and Townes, you'll like his music. When Dez and I saw him this summer, he was doing a lot of the tunes from TOWNES.

James McMurtry is going to play the Granada, too. Maybe I should put him on my TBI (to be interviewed) list. 8)

Thanks for the video and the link Terry, that was nice.
It's good to see them playing together, It's certainly been a long road for them.

Oh, and the phlocking sounds like a good idea. ;)

Guy Clark was there last night. I just couldn't make it. Dang.

Finished the Clark piece just now. When I got the layout done, I nearly cried. His music really touches me.

Good for you, Larry. Let us know what you think. I'm trying to remember seeing Steve Earle for the first time. It must have been at the Texas Uprising at Woodlands. Really great time for me seeing lots of people for the first time. I think that was 1997. I remember buying El Corazon and loved the Fort Worth Blues..it was his song for the Townes Tribute on Austin City Limits. (I think.) Telephone Road was a also a very special song.

He did CoI and CR in Dallas this summer. The show was amazing. If you like Townes Van Zandt songs, I think you'll like Earle, since a lot of the set list is from the tribute CD. Did you get a copy of it?

Am listening to Guy Clark as I type ... OUT IN THE PARKING LOT ... he co-wrote that with Darrell Scott.

Am about to publish the piece on Scott. What an interesting guy. THEATRE OF THE UNHEARD has the scariest cover EVER (think Charles Mason as a puppet), but once I got beyond that, I liked the songs.

He was very nice on the phone. Loves what he's doing. Seems to like everyone in his business, too. Loves Clark ... and Earle .... and of course, Townes.

When I talked to Clark, he was full of good things about Scott, too. They've worked together on several projects and Scott put THAT OLD TIME FEELING on his MODERN HYMNS CD, which is pretty amazing, too.

Am still trying to get Steve Earle and Lyle to talk to me for this series. Cross your phins and pheathers that they say "yes." [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

KK: I love that one, too. I have a CD with Clark, Earle and Townes playing. Clark does that one ... makes me smile every time.
