I wasn't really a fan of his, but this is VERY sad. He did have some really good songs in his reportoire.
Only 56-same age as me. Damn cancer.
Sail on, Dan.

Oh No! Leader of the band is one of my favorites.
I've been hearing "Same old Lang Syne" a lot this Christmas.

Awww man....since I grew up in the 80s his songs had a big impact on my life. I still cry every time I hear Leader of the Band...we used it in a slide show for my band director who was such a big influence on my life.

And "Longer" has always been one of my all time favorite songs.
I've been moving music around on my computers for my new iPod that better arrive tomorrow...and his playlist was a must.
This news makes me very sad.
Sail on, Dan....

I was a Fogelberg fan before I was a Buffett fan.....
From the great BN song database:
Domino College
Written By: Jimmy Buffett & Dan Fogelberg
Jimmy's Notes:
One of those winters back in the early eighties, Dan Fogelberg showed up in St. Barts, and we took off south aboard that grand old yacht Escapade. The night before, my guitar had been stolen out of my car, and of course we had been inspired by events of the week and wanted to write songs. Now our trip had a mission. We picked up some leads in the marketplace in Charlestown, the main city on the island of Nevis, which led us to the hills to Butlertown, where we met a man who made guitars. On the way to his home, we passed a roadside shed with a cold beer sign and the words "Domino College" painted on a piece of driftwood. I sat in for a few games and was given a quick education by the old men seated around the table. That night, as we lay at anchor under the cliffs below Brimstone Hill listening to the monkeys jabbering in the trees, we stared this song. I have often thought I might like to go back down to Domino College and get my master's degree.
Sail on, Dan. You will be *sadly* missed....

Miles played DF's "The Reach" the other night when he did Maria's dedications on Radio Margaritaville. I wonder if he knew Dan would be seeing Maria soon or if it was merely eerie coincedence.

UGH.......I'm really am
Dan was always one of my very favorite performers and I always considered him my "left coast" Jimmy Buffett....I've had the privilege of seeing him at an acoustic show....incredible.
He's one of the artists I've collected on vinyl, eight track, cassette and CD....that's how I judge 'em.
If you've never heard "Magic Every Moment"....do yourself a favor and track it down.....
Illinois...amazing song....
As the Raven Flies.....haunting
Tell Me to My Face.....great angry music
To the Morning.....ahhhhhhhhhhh, the MOST wonderful song to wake up to
Part of the Plan.....Man in the Mirror....Promises Made....
An amazing musical talent has left us..................
damn, I'm just sad all over again.......
Hope he's singing to Maria......

I too was a Fogelberg fan long before I was a Buffett fan. Loved his music. In fact, when my wife and i got married in 1980, " Longer" was the song we played as she walked down the aisle.
Sail on Dan. You will be missed.
Anyone know where his home in Maine was?
