Jerry Jeff at Gruene Hall 12-15-07

Post by springparrot »

We went to see Jerry Jeff at Gruene Hall Saturday night. It was one of his first shows after his back surgery and it seemed to be having a great time!

He was playing great and telling stories.

One of this stories was about his Grandfather hooking up his team of horses, Jinks and Jane, to the wagon and going to the local college in NY and taking the college for a hayride with sleigh bells hooked to the harnnesses. He said they were singing carols and having a wonderful. Something he has always remembered.

Another story he told was during the first Willie Picnic. There were a bunch of them at Willie's house singing and in walked a clown and midget. They were both clowns with the Barnum Bailey circus and one of the clowns, Billy Jim Baker, taught JJ Contrary to Ordinary. On the back on that CD is a pic of JJ as a clown. They became good friends and JJ got to perform with the circus as a clown in the clown car. The midget's name as ThunderFart

He also did Redneck Mother Christmas edition
M is for Mistletoe
O is for Oraments
T is for Tinsel
H is for Holly
E is for Egg Nog, Elk (ya'll remember Rudolph the rednosed reinELK) or Elves

R is for REDNECK

I have some videos and pics that I will try to get downloaded asap.

I SO want to go to a concert of his before I die.

Which stands to reason-I'd have a hell of a time trying to go to his concert after I die.

Nice to see Bob L there with him. I guess that is Steve Samuel drumming and who played lead?

Glad you got to go and enjoy Jerry Jeff back on the road again.

Gosh, I had to look closer. I thought I was seeing Bob....maybe just wanted to.

Maybe the guy on JJ's left (our right) is Robbie Gjersoe on lead??

That does look like it could be Tommy Malone on JJ's right.

Believe me, I'd LOVE to.
But my inner voice is telling me the next time I head for Texas (a.k.a.-REAL America), it will be with a one way ticket.
So you'd better give me a little time to get some affairs in order. 8)

OK, Wino, I'll give some time, but in the meantime...

You could also see Jerry Jeff at BB Kings in New York City March 15.

(By the way...it's officially freezing in Texas right now, but will be in the 60s again tomorrow)

ANOTHER trip that sounds very tempting, but I'll be "away on assignment" for my job until the 16th.

When JJW's in NYC/BBKing's then O is for Oneonta his hometown and likely the upstate college in his story. SP, any chance you can remember the setlist? Seeing JJW in March.

Goodman, Molly is out of pocket right now, but I'm sure we'll find out something when she gets back.
