Panama City Beach Margaritaville to Open March 2008

Post by phjim »

The scheduled opening date of the new Margaritaville Cafe in Panama City Beach, FL is February 15th. Read more about it and the Pier Park retail project at NARREIA.com. "<em>Margaritaville will be a huge draw and will have a dining deck on the second floor terrace. Just imagine watching the sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.</em>"

There's a CGI video of the Margaritaville in Panama City Beach, FL that gives you a look at the feel of the complex.

<font color=red><b>Updated:</b></font> From the Walton Sun: "Pier Park management casts wide net for retailers"
<em>
In the same area, Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville, one of the anchors of the center, will provide great food and bar service, retail shopping and live entertainment “usually with no cover charge, unless it's Jimmy,” general manager Mike Whitmer said. “This is the seventh domestic location for Margaritaville,” he said. He hopes to open in <b>early March</b>.</em>

Geeze! Yet another Simon "open air regional lifestyle center"! We have a "new"
one here (St. Johns Town Center) and it annoys me. Trying to recreate a small
town business area while making it a major draw in a large metropolitan city is bogus.
You still have to cruise for a parking space and dodge traffic on foot while freezing
and/or sweating and/or getting rained on. Makes me grumpy! [smilie=nolikey.gif] (Can you tell?)
But I'm not much of a shopper anyway, so I'm sure it won't matter to the developers
or store owners. The Total Wine store nearby and the Cheesecake Factory are the
only reasons I go there at all.

I hope the tourists like their "New & Improved" version of the Redneck Riviera.
I prefer the old one...

Where the sea oats don't blow in the wind any more,
Condos have taken their place on the shore.
And the prophets of progress have made this their vow,
"In God we trust to build for us another t-shirt shack" in my home town.

Jack Mosley, In My Home Town

Tearin' down the old makin' room for the new, they say.
They don't care they're killin' what I love 'bout my little town by the bay.

Most of Us locals prefer the old one too....but we are getting a Margaritaville out of it and hopefully free of the "Redneck Riviera" reputation also!

The CGI video didn't even show a Margaritaville. Hey, I'll be in Biloxi in late Feb. How far is that from Panama City? (I'm a WV parrothead).

I use to spring break it down there back in high school days and it was the best!!
Skip ahead about 15 years later...

The family and I went back down there a couple of years ago and hell I got lost. You wouldn't even know there is a freaking beach down there from all the condo's. I remember cruising the strip and having sun tanned babes on one side and the view on the gulf on the other. Now you are just surrounded by concrete walls, poor mother ocean is getting pushed aside.
Oh yeah also found a syringe, steak knife and a pair of panties floating in the water.....nice way to treat the gulf.

~150 miles... a bit far for a day trip, but a nice drive if you have the time.

I just moved to Panama City this year, so I have never known it any other way.....I do know, when I want to just go to the beach, I head the other way , to Mexico Beach. Height Restriction of 4 stories, and then only across the street from the beach....Easy parking, no traffic, and not many people.....Kind of like how Fernandina was when I first started going there in the early 70's....(Before people called it Amelia Island...  )

2005 Census puts the population of Mexico Beach at 1,192. Small, really nice, beach town...

I only go to PCB after Spring Break, and in the Fall and Winter..and to meet Cuervo...  I live in town, in Panama City...and I am still finding my way around here ..getting better all the time.

Having grown up in Charleston, SC....and then 20 yrs in Fernandina Beach, I know what they mean when they say "progress".

I guess that's what happened here....I can't wait for the Margaritaville to open though.. :D ..and yes, even the shopping center....I'll have a Borders, and other places I like to go , if and when, I shop.....It really is a pretty shopping center...and yes, I've been to the one in Jax as well...only twice. But I went there ....Ate at the Cheesecake Factory...and got my daughter's Christmas presents.....(Only Hollisters in Jax, I think??? Des, am I wrong? )

The thing about shopping malls.....they're going to put them where people are.....not where they "aren't"...that wouldn't make any sense...

I'm excited about the new one, and yes, it will be great having a M'ville here! I can't wait to put in my application to work in the Gift Shop... 8)

I'm going to ride out there this weekend....I'll take some pictures....

And maybe, just maybe, Bobbi (pcbfan) and I will finally meet...

Margaritaville at Pier Park

Post by armedtigercatt »

Okay, just confirming it is supposed to open around Feb 15th right? Does anyone know exactly what the address is, or where at Pier Park it is. I have lived in Panama City my entire life, and this is by far the best thing that has hit our beach. I usually avoid heading out to the beach like the plague, but I would LOVE to get a job out there. Anyone know if they're hiring yet, (or still)

Here is some ideas.... casinos... local places to eat...Capt. Al's, Cafe New Orleans (lunch), the Schooner, Brunos, McAllisters Deli.

that's pretty much all that's here.... there is still Katrina damage all over the coast.
