Here's the full text of the email, received this afternoon:
Greetings Everyone....

Normally, I can let most comments go by the wayside.... However, there is one item that needs to be addressed, as I have received a multitude of email regarding this issue.

Believe it or not, it is not about the entertainment schedule or the host hotel. No, this complaint is about Parrot Heads. It is the number 1 complaint I have received this year.....

What is it you may ask? Well, quite frankly, it is something that EVERY Parrot Head should be angry about. It should make you angry enough to pit Parrot Head club member against Parrot Head club member. It should be something that makes some members of the Parrot Head nation feel ashamed of themselves.

I'm sure I'll get more angry email messages for this, but I'll throw caution to the wind and just tell it like it is - We have Parrot Head club members that are "dead beats" when it comes to registering for MOTM. They send email messages about how they are not going to pay $75.00 to register for the convention when they can hear the same bands in Key West without having to pay for the privilege. Their fellow club members then send me the messages and ask what they should do.

My comment to them, and what I tell them to tell their fellow club members who do not register, is this - Without the Parrot Heads who register for MOTM, you would not be able to see your favorite bands in Key West because they would not be there! They are there because the convention is there, and PHiP has hired them to come to Key West and entertain the members attending the convention. PHiP does not prohibit them from obtaining employment at other venues, so they are able to perform several times during the week to offset some of their expense of being in Key West.

Most of the entertainers make just enough to pay for the trip, and some of them actually loose money. But, they keep coming for the FANS that want to see them. What do you think would happen if everyone decides they do not want to pay for the privilege of seeing their favorite bands in Key West? Simple - there will be no convention, and you will have lost the privilege of seeing all of the great entertainment in one place at the same time.

In reality, the people who do not register for MOTM have forgotten the whole concept of "Party with a Purpose," for it is the charities we support that will suffer the consequences of their actions. The charities will either receive less of a donation or possibly no donation at all, as it is the funds that remain after expenses that are distributed to the charities.

I would like to challenge all of the Parrot Heads that have registered and all of the musicians that are going to appear to help us get some of the "dead beats" to realize how lucky they are to have the opportunity to see all of the wonderful entertainers that will be in Key West during the convention. Most of the "dead beats" spend more than $75.00 per person on their bar tab and think nothing of it, but won't spend the same amount to register for MOTM.

Maybe, just maybe, we'll get some of them to see the error of their ways.......

Thanks.....

I got a couple of comments.

I don't mind paying; it's for charity.

But I do have an issue with calling people deadbeats who don't want to pay. While I would rather they did pay and support the charities, how are they a deadbeat if they choose to skip the events at the Casa that require registration? I don't find them to be any more of a deadbeat than the people who are not PHs and happen to be in KW that week and enjoy the public events...

That being said, I don't think it's cool for PHs to encourage others not to pay the registration fee.

At the end of the day, Bill De Walt is entirely right about this: if people do not register for MOTM and support it with registration fees, one day MOTM will be no more.....

Agree with both of you.......I'm not going to spend my money at Casa because of issues with them but I will support MOTM. I'll pay the registration fee, buy PHIP swag. It supports worthy charities and isn't that the whole point? And how else are we going to hear a good variety of music and party for 5 days?

I didn't understand the email. I haven't heard of anyone not wanting to pay the registration fee.
