So, did anyone watch the Dream House special on New Year's? What did you think?

I'd be happy to win it, but it's not a "keeper" as far as my dream house goes. If they weren't building 7 more houses between that one and the water, maybe, but the view is going to s*** for years probably, and when all is said and done, it won't be that great. Who wants to look at heavy construction equipment and torn up landscaping when trying to enjoy the view, not to mention all of the dust it will produce. I've been amongst the first in a subdivision, and it wasn't pretty.

Who knows when the pool will be in - not any time soon.

So when I win it, I'll invite some friends, enjoy it for a month or so, and put it up for sale. THEN I'll find MY dream home! :D

I DVR'd it and watched it last night. I love the architecture and the layout (love the colors!), and the location (for now). You're right about the construction and all that for the next few years though.

And I'd want the pool and the dock too, who knows when those will go in, likely not until they've got the whole development sold, so they don't have to have the upfront costs right away.

I'd probably end up selling it and buying a few-hundred-thousand dollar condo in the Riviera Maya or someplace much cheaper to live, but it would have to be on the beach! 8)

I put a post-it on the 'puter. I have entered almost everyday but I never win anything. :-? But if I did win....I would down there so fast, dinner in northern VA wouldn't be cold. :D
I don't know how we would pay the taxes on a 2 million dollar house....but I probably won't have to worry about that....

I would have the biggest phlocking EVER!!!!!!

Has anyone checked recently on the status of the project?

When we were in Islamorada this past December just about every new residential developement project had been halted!

I just called the telephone # listed on the website, and got a rinky dink answering machine recording.
My guess is that like most FL developers, they have given up on the rest of the project.
The good news: If you win, you probably won't have neighbors for a decade or so.
The bad? Since you'll probably have to sell it to cover the income and property taxes, you might not even get enough in this housing market to cover it!
You will be taxed on the value suggested by the builder, both for income for the win, and for the property .
The lucky person that buys it from you for around half of what the developer had envisioned will be taxed on that reduced amount.
Always the pesimist this time of year,

Hmmmm....in debt and living by the sea....as opposed to in debt and living in Washington DC...yea that's a tough decision!

Was just down there this past Nov. and took a specific ride to see the house in person. IT'S GORGEOUS !! The neighborhood is developed nicely. The pool was not in yet, but we were told that there was one going in for the 8 houses in the development to use. Apparently this one is the one in the middle-ish. We asked around and the locals stated it was chaos putting it up and the news media etc.
Either way I'll take it and enter daily !!!
