Stepping down ... gonna be hard

A lot of you know that I am the founder/president of the Australian Parrot Head Club .....

I started it from nothing - there was just me and a local guy that sang. I spent ages scouring the internet - sites like this, looking for australian parrotheads and contacting them. I recruited some people that went to the local Hogs Breath to their annual Buffett night and we soon had enough numbers for a club.

From there - it grew - we have two major events a year as our club has members across the country - one in Newcastle, and one in Queensland and we have raised thousands of dollars for charity.

It is also no secret that I suffer from work related depression and am still medicated for that, and I moved to Sydney to be happier in my work.

Well, we have "parrot heads behaving badly" in my home town of Newcastle - long story - but they have no integrity, done nothing but lie and have created their own little breakaway group (which they maintain is just close family and friends, but they have a newsletter, a bank account and a name .... friends and family my foot!) ..... these people have zip idea on being a parrot head. Apparently to be in a "parrot head club" you have to prove your dedication to Jimmy Buffett by agreeing his poop does not stink - ie like EVERYTHING there is about him .. well there are songs I dont like .... some mannerisms I might not like .... we dont like EVERYTHING about EVERYONE!

Anyway - I have NO energy to fight these people. I am too up front and honest, where they work behind your back and with no integrity.

As a result, rather than fold the club, I am handing over the reigns to the guy that organises our Queensland event in January. I will still be organising the Newcastle show ..... if I feel ok - otherwise have others willing to do so ....

It is going to a little hard - this is my "baby" - founded from nothing but some inspiration from friends in the USA that had done the same thing ... but I know it is going to be in good hands ....

<<<<< tough time ahead but I feel the time is right!

Good Luck Creeky. Take care of yourself first and foremost, because without your health, you have nothing.

You'll be ok, Jenny. :) Sometimes letting something go that you care a lot about lets you enjoy it more - less work, more time to have fun, relax during events, and wash your hands of the ones who caused so much fuss. ;)

It is not too bad ... our club will survive and grow. We have increased our club territory ...

However, I have had some stuff to go through in other parts of my life and suffered a slight "relapse" in my illness - so I gotta look after myself.

The FUN has gone - it has turned political (something the "others" say they are not ... ha!) . I need to get the fun back - that is what it is all about!

Sounds to me like you have made a good decision, as hard as it was. I hope you enjoy your Buffett adventures and get "some of the magic back."

Ya did a great job getting things started and I"m sure will be appreciated for a long time.

Keep on keepin on, Creeky, and enjoy yourself.

This sounds like a good move for you.

Just enjoy the events and forget the infighting!

Kinda like a parent who had a child that graduated and is on it's own. You got it there...now enjoy it!

I hear ya Jenny, I had to step down from my job a week ago due to the ridiculousness that I did not want to deal with or be a part of. Unfortunately, you cant ALWAYS win, even if you built it from the ground up yourself.... Good luck in the future :D

I feel for you Creeky. I went through the same with several clubs. I didn't start them but came in when they weren't doing well. One thing led to another and the membership grew and became more active. However, some new members wanted changes and they came about. Not all positive or good though. Anyway, I stepped down & back. It's better this way. Less headaches and aggravation.

Breathe in, breathe out, move on. .............. Enjoy
