Somebody earlier mentioned "there are a whole generation out there..."
As a teacher, I have a front-row seat to observe the next generation. Happily, they're mostly really really good. Just like in this story, though, their major problems are usually their overly-sensitive, disrespectful, I-want-it-because-I-want-it parents.
The kids often already know better...

There's great upbringing...lie and cheat your way through life!!
it's to bad the concert wasn't closer to home....they could of publicly humiliated her on stage...then drag her sorry a$$ out before the concert started!!
MAY Lose her ticket??? You've got to be kidding me! So there's a chance she can still see the concert even though she told such a heinous lie?? And I agree, no 6 year old came up with this by herself. Too bad you don't have to take any kind of test to have children - any moron with an egg and a sperm donor can do it.

Secondly, most 6 year old's are not capable of writing an "essay." Maybe a sentence or two. And they certainly wouldn't know how to spell "IRAQ" and various other words for the essay.
Where could this six year old child and her parent have gotten the idea that it is OK to lie about something in order to get your way? I think all lying liars should be punished, with the punishment depending on the seriousness of the lie. Small lies = small punishment. Big lies = Big punishment.

Any discussion of the propriety of spanking aside (because back in the 60's most kids I knew got spanked) my grandfather delivered memorable spankings. Not beatings, by any means, but you never wanted to experience more than one. My grandfather was also adamant about telling the truth. Do something wrong, you got a spanking. Lie about it, you got THREE spankings..... I think that whirring sound I hear is Papa, spinning in his grave....

I watched the video of the mother being confronted with the lie and she just kept saying "I don't need this..... I don't need...." but then walked out with her kid and all the stuff they got. I just wanted to slap her!

In a statement released late Friday, Drolet said: "Club Libby Lu has learned the essay submitted under the name Alexis Menjivar in the Club Libby Lu "Hannah Montana Rock Your Holidays Essay Contest" is untrue. We are reviewing the facts in the matter so that we may determine an appropriate resolution to the situation. Club Libby Lu had no knowledge of the inaccuracies in the essay until 2:45 this afternoon - Friday, December 28. We regret that the original intent of the contest, which was to make a little girl's holiday extra special, has not been realized in the way we anticipated."'
The company said it is awarding the grand prize to another contest winner. Club Libby Lu said it would not disclose the name of the new winner to protect the family's privacy.
How much anyone wanna bet that the conversation with the 6 year old about why they can't go to the concert goes something like, "Those mean, nasty people took away your prize! It's just not fair!" instead of "We did something we shouldn't have done."

I was thinking the same thing. When I watched the video you could see the mother didn't really think she was doing anything wrong.
