Just sickening....
Girl wins concert tickets with essay faking dad's death in Iraq
GARLAND, Texas (AP) -- An essay that won a 6-year-old girl four tickets to a Hannah Montana concert began with the powerful line: "My daddy died this year in Iraq."
A fake essay won a 6-year-old girl four tickets to a sold-out Hannah Montana concert.
While gripping, it wasn't true -- and now the girl may lose her tickets after her mom acknowledged to contest organizers it was all a lie.
...grand prize: airfare for four to Albany, New York, and four tickets to the sold-out Hannah Montana concert on January 9.
The mother had told company officials that the girl's father died April 17 in a roadside bombing in Iraq, company spokeswoman Robyn Caulfield said.
"We did the essay and that's what we did to win," Priscilla Ceballos, the mother, said in an interview with Dallas TV station KDFW. "We did whatever we could do to win."

Talk about teaching your kids *CRAP*....
How about teaching the daughter to live with some disappointment in life....

hard to believe the 6 year old came up with that essay on her own....there should be stiff consequences to both the kid and the mother. Public service helping in Rehab centers for Iraq vets or something like that.

The news story doesn't say, but if the requirements of the essay contest were to write a true story, then the girl should be DQ'd. If the requirements were to just write an essay and the judges felt she wrote the best essay of the ones submitted then good for her.

What a lovely example for that mom to set for the way to go on in life....
That little girl could grow up to be one twisted adult...

I just read this on CNN! I will just never get over how bad these kids (and parents) want these concert tickets. Between the scalping and the fake stories, when can kids ever be innocent again and just enjoy a normal kids artist like we did when we were young?

Fraud technically COULD work, since there is an exchange in currency and goods, and they are receiving it by deceit. It might be a stretch in court, but it's possible.
the HOG would probably know

I guess it depends how the rules were set up.
I still think she should be required to attend a soldier's funeral, and see what a family goes through.
There was a day when she would have been ASHAMED of herself..... my how we as a society have changed, but not for the better.....

The parent has to be held to some account in this instance.
This "WIN AT ALL COST" mentality is crap, and the pieces of crap the DO this need to be dealt with.
