Global Warming - MUST READ!
I just finished a book called "Cool It - The Skeptical Environmnetalist's Guide to Global Warming" by Bjorn Lomborg.
If you want to be informed about the current climate crisis, then you must read this book. It is only 164 pages long, and extremely easy to read. The arguments are clearly and logically presented.

no one is going to change the way they live . . . I have met so many people who claim to be "environmental" but they still take unnecessary flights for vacations and shower 10 times a week and keep their homes at 72 degrees and drive non hybrid cars or not car pool . . . sure the book is great . . . but it just doesn't matter. People won't change. And they won't have to for a long time so nothing will be different.
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

I don't remember where I read it, but someone once said "I don't know which is more arrogant- thinking that we could change this, or thinking that we could cause it". Referring to global warming, and the general state of the planet.
I have a couple efficient lightbulbs. But the fin truck gets 8 miles per gallon on a good day.

The plane flights I made the past few years MAY be unnecessary, but, from what I understand, Amtrak doesn't go to Honolulu for some reason.drunkpirate66 wrote:they still take unnecessary flights for vacations
NO WAY!!!and keep their homes at 72 degrees
I keep mine at 78.
You don't want me to freeze to death, do you?

The point is . . . I have never met anyone who claims to be an environmentalist (and I am not one . . . not even close . . . ) who is actually an environmentalist . . . I know there are a few out there but I have never met one . . . and it really annoys me when people claim to be "all about the environment" but still fly for nothing more than to get away from the cold . . . or use big oil/ gas chugging trucks who don't need them for work . . . or have big boats with big motors but claim they are environmentalists . . . as long as you don't claim to be one . . . live however you want!

AAaaahahahahahah gotta little angst in you life, there dp66...
'cause you haven't met one...means they don't exist, perhaps...
although, I, personally, do not:
fly for nothing more than to get away from the cold . . . or use big oil/ gas chugging trucks who don't need them for work . . . or have big boats with big motors
don't drive a hybrid simply because what I have is paid for and at the present time can't afford a newer one.
you do not have to claim to be an environmentalist to be environmentally conscious

I would like to say Thank you for JBFins suggestion to read this book. It is a very good read and certainly raises some very different viewpoints and is nothing like what I expected. It has more to do with preparing for changes based on what the potential impacts are then trying to reduce our individual carbon footprints and reducing greenhouse gases. The author puts forth the idea that we are wasting time, money and resources trying to do something that even if we manage to do, will only delay things by 5 or 10 years, instead he is advocating that we figure out how to mitigate or reduce the impact of climate change on those who will be impacted.
I have to say that it is thought provoking and certainly approaches climate change from a fresh perspective.
