Actually, I never had any idea what I wanted to be....ended up majoring in philosophy and literature. Took the LSAT. Got into Fordham Law. Went to a half-day of orientation, couldn't take anymore, hopped the 1 train downtown and went home. Hmm.. what should I do now? Graduate school! Got a Masters degree in literature, took some education courses, got certified in secondary ed. English and became a teacher. I've been teaching 8th grade English for 9 years, and I'm so glad I chose this career!

My grandfather was a surgeon who interned with the Mayo brothers.
I always thought I wanted to be a doctor.
Graduated high school near the top of my class, went to college in pre- med, but had more fun than grades in college. Graduated with a microbiology degree, but then went and got a masters business degree instead of an advanced science degree.
Have been a corporate bean counter/number cruncher ever since.
Pretty well satisfied with how things turned out, and wouldn't change much if I could.

At 18 I was a grabage collector.. on Beale AFB our company did notWino you know wrote:I'd always hoped to be either a fireman or garbage collector because I thought it was awesome to be able to hang onto the back of a truck.
But, since I possessed neither the physical ability to be a fireman nor the intelligence to be a garbage collector, I chose merchant sailing, and, later, the Navy.
It was only sheer cooincidence that I ended up in my current profession.
I do like doing what I do, but I still have a goal of someday being a writer, and, of course, my dream job of being Sandra Bullock's massuse.

I'll be here Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Try the veal, don't forget to tip the waitstaff.kitty wrote:you should have gone into stand up comedy instead of law!LIPH wrote:I wanted to be perfect. I no longer have anything to shoot for.
And technically I guess I'm not really perfect. The second sentence should have been "I no longer have anything for which to shoot." You shouldn't end a sentence with a preposition.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Hey, my late father was a vet and his class (1952) was 30% female, at Guelph.Snowparrot wrote:When I was about 8 or 10 I wrote a little paragraph on what I wanted to be: I was sure it involved writing (typing) and wearing glasses. I got my first typewriter when I was 10 or 11. I still spend all my days and nights at a keyboard, translating, revising or editing other people's words. (and I've worn glasses since I was 14) My novel will be a very long time coming--lack of inspiration.
I also wanted to be a veterinarian, but in those days, girls were not welcome in vet school (yes, it was the dark ages, back in the early 60s).

As a kid I wanted to be a marine engineer, writer, or pilot.
Ended up being a public school administrator.
Still, I think it's what I'm supposed to be doing... I enjoy it a lot PLUS I can make sure my own kids get a great education.
And on the side, I'm restoring an old convertible, am about to begin building a boat, write a political blog and have taken my first lesson in pilot's school.
So... maybe it's all working out after all. I just needed a "real job" to support my "fun" jobs.

When I was 4 or 5 I wanted to be a miner 49'er, complete with mule, pick, shovel and a pan for working the gold fields. Then as I got older I wanted to be a Marine (did that for a while, until my medical discharge), I worked as an thropologist because it was so interesting (and the pay checks were so small) and some how or another I ended up working in the travel industry. I'm still there after all these years.

When I was in elementary school I wanted to be a denitst. That carried on until early junior high, when the girl I liked and whose dad was a dentist grew less important in my life. I also had some realization around then of how much school being a dentist would require....I gave up on that one for sure.
After that I wanted to work in speciel effects. Then the computer revolution came along and I didn't figure they'd need model-makers any more. Guess that's not true, should have tried that path a bit harder. Of course at that time there weren't full-page advertisements for FX schooling....(are there such ads now?
)
Now a-days I have NO clue what I want to be when I grow up. I'm pretty sure I don't want to grow up and in fact haven't been accused of doing so.
So there you have it, DON'T KNOW is where I am now. Big surprise huh?!?!
