I really don't care if the writers are on strike. There's not much good things on TV or in the movies anyway. They're all rehashes.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Heard earlier in the week that the actors guild voted not to go to the ceremony and not cross the picket line. So none of the nominees/winners or presenters would have shown up!

I feel badly for the writers and all the production people who are without jobs at the moment. Not as badly for the big-time (wealthy) actors, but definitely feel for the average actor trying to make ends meet.

I haven't read all that much about the strike, but if what I heard is correct, I side with the writers. Writers get paid for TV reruns, but are not currently getting paid for people watching "reruns" on the internet, etc. That stinks. A rerun is a rerun, no matter the media. The writers should get paid for their work....

Sure, if it's not settled by then, it will be cancelled as well.

More shows to follow, Kimmel is going on Leno and Leno going on Kimmel, no big stars going on any shows right now....

I don't think it's going to get settled for a while.

This is horrible. This is a tragedy that ranks up there with the...ah...oh...well, yes, Bambi's mother. I won't be able to sleep knowing that a bunch of hollywood elitists will not be getting awards for nothing more than bad acting.

 That's because the writer's are on strike silly.
There would be new episodes of shows and new movies being written if the writers weren't on strike.

If the strike isn't settled soon, it will affect the potential for new shows for Fall, too because Pilots won'be written & screened.

I definitely support the writers. They don't get anything if you watch a TV episode on the internet or download it from iTunes.
Songwriters get residuals every time their work is played, regardless of the medium.

And while Letterman and his production company have settled, allowing stars to appear on the show, Leno and others are back without writers (who they actively support) because the rest of the staff would have lost their jobs.

Some of the commentary I have seen has indicated that not only does this begin to jeopardize the fall season, it may change the entire calendar for tv.

As for the Golden Globes, of the 70 actors and actresses nominated, none of them would appear. No stars, no program.

And yes, the Oscars are definitely in jeopardy unless this is settled soon.

Agreed. The fallout goes back a lot deeper than simply "no new shows". :-? :-? :-?
A lot of supporting trades are being affected and it's only getting tougher

Fortunately, this first cancellation may be the real impetus to get the negotiations ball rolling again.
There's no way they're gonna let this foul up the Grammys or Oscars

My vote is for the new show Life. One of the only really great shows I've seen in a long time.

My point is that if you download a song off iTunes (i.e., digital mediums) the writer gets a residual for his/her intellectual efforts.
Sure, there's pirating, but for the most part the writer gets paid for the work regardless of media outlet...in principle.

See this brief YouTube Video for info about what the Writers are asking for:

It can get better/worse very shortly. Seems the producers are the guys that won't budge with the writers. The directors union is next, followed shortly by screen actors to re negoiate contracts. The producers refuse to share thier toys in Hollwood's sandbox.
