No doubt. I think Mirabelli has a job with the Red Sox as long as Wakefield is still around.
Funny how he has a single A bat at best . . . and a double A arm at best . . . but he catch the knuckle ball . . . sign him up!
Not 100% true. His bat is better than advertised.
He averages, per 162 games played, 17 HRs and 59 RBIs.
Not dominant major league numbers, but better than A-Ball....the .231 average brings him down, though.
Speciifally now . . . he wouldn't make A ball . . . other than the catching the knuckle thing . . .
2007:
9 runs
23 hits
5 homers
16 rbi
11 walks . . . 41 SO
.202 average . . .
pretty bad, P.
He doesn't have the bat speed OR the arm any more . . .
Only 114 ABs due to injury....don't forget that.
Project to 162 games...
30 Runs
77 Hits
17 HRs
54 RBI
37 BB
138 K
.202 average
still better than A-Ball...
I don't even know why I'm defending Mirabelli....just like debating Jon

I appreciate the complement . . . but 138 K's and .202 average without a strong defensive arm wouldn't get you far in the minors, P. More K's than hits and walks combined . . . over 20 more K's . . .
please.
Not unprecedented. Recent occurances:
2006, Mark Bellhorn, San Diego. 70 hits and walks. 90 Ks.
2003, Jose Hernandez, 3 teams. 163 to 177.
2001, Jose Hernandez, Milwaukee. 174 to 185.
Adam Dunn and Ryan Howard are close to this balance every year. Richie Sexson too. Preston Wilson used to do it...kept getting jobs.
EDIT: In fact, Hernandez stayed in the Bigs for 15 years, despite only getting on base about 100 more times than he struck out...
You know how I feel about big power guys like Howard and Sexson . . .
and Bellhorn and Hernandez would, in my opinion, qualify my statement about not making A ball (or progressing through the minors . . .) as they are pretty darn bad too . . . . but you are correct. It does happen.
They all can't be Jimmy Rollins.
Guess BOTH of us are making the point about having a specific tool to bring to the table.
The ability to catch freaks.

Mirabelli stinks at the plate. But he is a decent defensive cather and he makes Wakefield better.

Stat of the day....
Don Mattingly hit a record SIX Grand Slams in the 1987 season.
He hit SIX Grand Slams for his entire career.
Never hit another, before or after that year!

Cool baseball facts about Julia Stiles-
Is a die-hard New York Mets fan.
After a 39-minute rain delay and dressed with a Mets cap, Julia Stiles threw out the opening pitch at Shea Stadium during the Memorial Day game of the New York Mets vs. Arizona Diamondbacks on May 29, 2006.
I was gonna throw the first pitch at a Mets game, but there was a rain delay. So I'm waiting for it to stop, and the team's manager, Willie Randolph comes by. Now he's already intimidating to begin with. But he comes over to me and says, "If you screw this up, they will boo you." And I said "Thanks."
There you have it! Proof that the AL and the DH

Not sure of the 'rules', but it's listed that way on MLB.com.

I think it may be for the team to actually have them do rehab at the team facilities to get them to get back into playing shape.

chances are you will be puking a lot this season when LaTroy Hawkins comes in so why not just wait, no need to be the extra strain on your stomach right now.

He's a man of rare talents. Among them, giiving up a six run lead with TWO OUTS left to go. Not once, not twice, not thrice, but
FOUR TIMES!
His excuse?
"I'm just not the closer type."

But, by all accounts, a really nice guy. Overcame the hard streets of Gary, Indiana to make it to where he is...
...but he still sucks.
