Awards so far, my opinions:

I agree with Longoria, but Ramirez should have received more votes. Shouldn't have been unanimous pick.

I agree with Soto. Think it's funny that Volzquez received votes. Maybe because it was his first year in the NL? If so, why didn't Johan Santana get votes?

Maddon should have been a unanimous pick. Shocked he was not.

Pinella....I guess so. No dominant choice there.

Lincecum. Agreed with the NL Cy Young voting 100%.

Lee. Agreed, but thought Halladay deserved more votes to make it closer, but Lee still deserves the award.

Just heard this, Swisher was way overrated. I thought the White Sock gave up to much to get him in the first place

Not saying he's not a great player, but I find it ironic that Jeter wins his 3rd, in one of his worst seasons.

It's nice to see a good amount of first timers get this award...I like to see fresh faces.

That was my first thought. Watching him day to day, he wasn't his usual self this year. Never really got over an early hand injury.

I posted this in the MSC thread last night but I thought I'd put it in the baseball thread too.

For any Yankees fans out there, or just baseball fans in general, Nils Lofgren from The E Street Band has a song called "Yankee Stadium" that you can download free at nilslofgren.com. It's a nice tune.

To save a couple of mouse clicks from his homepage, it's here:

Grabbed that, thanks. For anybody downloading it, it's a zip file. Kinda odd, because you don't gain anything from zipping an mp3 file.

Very true.
Did anyone else also download The Star Spangled Banner from that link?
It is really a wonderful version.

I downloaded both of them but I didn't listen to The Star Spangled Banner yet. There are 2 other songs you can get free from his website.

Pujols was a deserving winner. The only knock against him this season could be the lack of team success.

Howard got WAY too much credit by finishing 2nd. Few have ever put up numbers like he did this season. But if this season was MVP worthy for Ryan Howard, then I have to ask why Dave Kingman never got that kind of consideration? His best season was similar (but better) to what Howard did this season, and in that season, he did not even make the top 10 in MVP voting. Sorry, but you just can't vote for a guy that struck out in nearly 1/3 of his plate appearances.
Howard, 2008: .251 BA, .339 OBP, 48 HRs, 199 Ks.
Kingman, 1979: .288 BA, .343 OBP, 48 HRs, 115 Ks.

Sabathia & Ramirez...I understand the votes for them, but also don't think they should be considered....if the trades were earlier in the season, yes, but 1/3 of the season in the league should not get you MVP consideration.

The first big FREE AGENT signing of the off-season....

Jeremy Affeldt signs with the Giants for 600,000.

Sounds like the kind of splash I'd expect from the Giants
