John Fogerty sings it, it is called Centerfield. Up until a few years ago they used to play it at every sox home game when the team took the field.

They are still lacking that big power hitter in the middle of the lineup. And at Petco Field that is a problem. I do like Adrian Gonzalez though, the Red Sox made a run at hime when Texas put him on the market but SD grabbed him.

Gonzalez and Kouzmanoff are both fine for the NL West.

Don't know about Kouzmanoff, but from what I've seen of Gonzalez, I'd bet that he'd be a 30-40 HR guy easy for a lot of teams, especially for the Red Sox.

Conversation I had this weekend with someone about the Hall of Fame and what cap players wear on their plaque. Only using players who have played on various teams and had success with multiple teams what cap should they have on their HOF plaque? Looking at the list of current players and those who are retired but not yet in the HOF, IF and a BIG IF these players were to get enshrined in Cooperstown what cap should they have on. Some of these players are HOF locks, some are borderline and some at unknown because of the steroid issues.


Clemens (Bos or NY)
I say NY, up until last season I thought Bos but with him going back to NY last season I think the NY cap decision is easier now.

Ricky Henderson (NYY or Oak)
Played for so many teams but NYY and Oak is where he had is greatest success. I say he goes in with a Oak cap

Curt Schilling (Phi, Ari, Bos)
Probably should go in with a Phi cap. But he won his championships with other teams and never won 20 games in a season with Phi but won 20 games 3 times since leaving Phi. Many people think he gets in because of his postseason numbers, since joining Bos he is 6-0 in the postseason with two titles. Tough call but I go with Phi.

Randy Johnson (Sea or Ari)
Tough tough call but for now it has to be Seattle but if he can somehow pitch well this season and rack up wins Ari has to be in the discussion.

Ken Griffey (Sea or Cin)
I think Sea, he had his best years there and in Cin he has spent more time on the DL then he has on the field.

Mike Piazza (LA or NYM)
Before looking I thought LA but he spent more time in NY and had great success there so I say NYM

Roberto Alomar (Bal, Tor, Cle)
Probably Tor, played there longer than any of his teams and won two titles there

Manny Ramirez (Bos or Cle)
Tremendous success in both places, after this season he would have played 8 season on both teams but I think Bos will be the choice.

Rafael Palmeiro, not sure he gets even close but if he ever did it would probably be Bal

Gary Sheffield, is a projected HOFer using the monitor. What cap, take your pick. After this season he would have played over one season with 7 different teams.


The rest of the HOF locks or near locks not yet eligible are all pretty easy to determine what cap they will have on.

Sheffield will be a Yankee . . .

Can't see Piazza going in as a Met since the Dodgers and Tommy Lasorda gave him his chance.

The qestion about the Yankees starting rotation seems to be answered in today's NY Post. Starting 5, Chien-Ming Wang, Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy. With Chamberlain starting out in the bullpen.

I think whoever was putting together the baseball cd they would have to add who's on first to the list.

My only problem with the rotation they have (and believe me, I love that Joba's in the pen!) is who is the next guy in line? Carl Pavano? There's no way Pettitte or Mussina each get 30 starts. As for Hughes and Kennedy, it's always tough to make it through the entire season the first year you're a regular starter.

I worry about the power already displayed in ARI and COL
In a division as close as NL West, where the clutch pitching sets the the tone by Aug and Sept, the difference maker really is clutch hitting.
We saw just who brought it by the last weekend in Sept '07. Padres really have to step up.

Pettitte disclosed the conversation to the congressional committee holding Wednesday's hearing on drug use in baseball, a person familiar with the affidavit said. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the document had not been made public.

According to the person familiar with the affidavit, who said it was signed Friday night, Pettitte also said Clemens backtracked when the subject of HGH came up again in conversation in 2005, before the same House committee held the first hearing on steroids in baseball.

I commented earlier that I think the World Series champion comes out of the NL West. Stacked Division . . . (although I do think Colorado will drop). San Diego is my pick . . . but of course the D Backs could be there . . .

either way, I still say dollar for dollar the Padres at 70 million have the best team in MLB.

Forgot the Dodgers have a pretty good rotation too with Penny, Schmidt, Lowe, and Billingsley
