Jeanie - the first picture is the whole village taken from its southern side. Our house is just off the square to the north of the village. Its a typical southern french wine village. We actually have a superb wine domaine next door!docandjeanie wrote:no shoes wrote:Ste Valiere
Wow, Roxane, nice house & nice kitchen... I would love to cook there.
Is the first picture the view from the house. I fixed your last photo for you.
If you fancy a trip to France you can always come and look!
Take care

And Lundy Creek

And The Crab Cooker

I can be in Lee Vining in about three hours from my house, so the Eastern Sierra’s are pretty much in my back yard. The Eastern Sierra’s have become THE place I go every year to re-charge my spirit and make sure my compass is still pointing in the right direction. Long Valley is absolutely sacred in its beauty and mystery. Nothing like driving out Benton Crossing road in the early AM and seeing all the steam from the hot springs rising up out of the sage brush and grasses already brown from the first few frosts of fall. I usually wear shorts, a flats style fishing shirt and Chaco sandals while fishing, searching for hot springs, driving down unexplored dirt roads and taking a few photos along the way. I’ve learned a Snickers bar and a beer make a pretty good lunch and there’s NOTHING like getting back to your cheap hotel room at the end of the day sunburned, a little scratched up and bleeding from wondering amongst the scrub brush, a little hung over and smelling like fish. When your head hits the pillow, the mental slide show of all the places you saw, fish you caught and the emotions that are still fresh as the smell of sage on your clothes send you off to a great nights sleep. And in the morning you can’t wait to jump in and do it again.

You're right: White Pine (Pinus strobus) range mapWino you know wrote:About the same time snow started falling in Iowa.Tequila Revenge wrote:Since when did evergreens start growing in Iowa?Wino you know wrote:Global warming, Iowa style
Only five evergreens are native to Iowa. They are eastern white pine, red cedar, balsam fir, common juniper and yew. Evergreen or conifer trees differ from hardwoods or deciduous trees in that the leaves are needle like and the reproductive organs are borne in cones instead of flowers.
White pine is easy to identify. Its leaves or needles occur in bundles or fascicles of five, 3-5 inches long, bluish green, with fine white lines or stomata. The cones are 3-6 inches long, gradually tapering, with cone scales without prickles and light tan to whitish in color on outer edge of the scales. The terminal buds are ovoid in shape, about 3/8 of an inch long, tapering to an abrupt slender tip, and have light brown scales. The bark on young trees is smooth and light gray, becoming dark gray to black with flat plates separated by shallow fissures on older trees.
I thought Iowa would only have herd woods and coton woods for some reason. You learn something new everyday on BN.
