You can change most to all I believe. Doesn't matter. 18 is the age of majority. Parental rights and responsibilities cease at 18 in the eyes of the law. Like it or not your 19 year old child can do anything they want with their body and possessions and there is nothing you can do about it, unless your are a control freak and they allow you to control and manipulate them.
Think of it as a contract: party A performs action x for party B in exchange for actions y & z. party B fails to uphold the terms of the contract. party A ends the contract and takes back the item.

and 18 yos, being legal adults, are bound by contract laws. so....
You either didn't read the entire article or my post that responded to a similar reply. I'll paste it here. The portion in bold shows that we agree with the contract thing. The portion in red is the pathetic part of her actions.
you don't see my point it seems. I have issues with parents that attempt to manipulate their children after they are considered 'adults' in the eyes of the law. I have no problem with her allowing him to use a car she purchased, I'm even ok with selling it off after he broke the law. It is rediculus that she is making a public spectacle of the entire thing. In about 5-10 years he will come to resent her, if not already for her attempts to control and manipulate him.
so from this point on, can we put you down for being against any and all actions on the part of your local, state, or federal government in which shame is used as a deterrant/corrective device?
If she wanted to shame the kid, she would've used names in the ad. She probably wanted a payday out of it, like the dad who sold his kid's Guitar Hero on ebay for 10 times what it was worth after he found him smoking pot.

perhaps. but can you make a lot of money past the sale of the car? I can't see this turning into a Movie of the Week or anything

Of course, I already am opposed to punishments by the government that resort to shame. I have never advocated pshchological abuse to influence bahavior. That would be considered torture if our military attempted this practice when interrogating prisoners...right?

There's no way in helll I would buy a 19 year old a car (Unless maybe she was a hot stripper.)It sounds like a messed up family, and booze will be the least of his problems after Mommy Control Freak gets done with him.

He's an adult minor.....which means still not old enough to legally possess/consume alcohol. If that was a stipulation when he got the car, then so be it. Obviously, it was registered/titled in her name or she wouldn't have been able to sell it.

If he doesn't like it he can get his adult A$$ out of her house and buy his own car......you don't get to play it both ways.....get treated like a minor, live at home, have mommy and daddy pay for the car AND play by big boy rules.....

wPBs :) :-?

I grew up in a permissive, you break it-you buy it style of teenage life ("just don't drink your fathers beer!")
and I can tell you that for as much as a lot of my friends thought folks were "SOOO cool!!"
I've had to battle demons, at different stages, for a most of my adult life, mostly based on alcohol use.

I look back without regrets... I've taken care of myself pretty much OK

...but I would not give my teenager that kind of leeway... again. :-? :-?

As someone about the same age as the kid: Kudos Mom!
That being said, why is this newsworthy? Because the kid is 19 and thus considered an adult?

my dad told me....at age 13.....

"You get arrested, do not bother calling home. We will NOT come get you."

(And I knew he meant it. My mom would try, he wouldn't let her.....I knew how it'd play out.)

Kept me out of trouble!!!
