Moving to Key West

Post by boardkicker1015 »

In the fall I finish my masters degree in acct and want to move to Key West. Are there any good opportunities there in accounting/auditing?

Does anyone know anything about this? I know it's a long shot, but I figured I'd try.

I finish school in December.

Thanks,
John

P.S. If anyone knows of jobs there, please let me know.

Why Key West?

If you want a fun spot to live . . . save up like 5,000 - 10,000 (not hard . . . ) and move a little further south east . . . that money will go far down island way . . . and there are plenty of jobs for people with college degrees.

Key West is cramped and pricey . . . and I am guessing all the good jobs go to the "locals".
the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

For networking, I'd try this message board http://p081.ezboard.com/bitsonlykeywest. They are a bunch of friendly locals, newcomers to Key West and those who wish to be there.

As Drunkpirate noted, it is a very tight community with conchs getting the best opportunities through the coconut telegraph and it's an expensive place to live. That said, take a shot at the dream. Introduce yourself to the moderators, CBK and Kat, they are nice, helpful people, and see where it goes. BTW - on that site my screen name is Bunky, in case you want to let them know who tipped you off.

Good luck!

When I moved here, I got a GREAT job and had no connections at all. What employers want down here is someone with good work ethics, who is not a drunk and can pass a drug test. A lot of conchs can't do that. They have at least two jobs that don't drug test.
That being said, it is expensive to live here, with the average rent for a SMALL 1 bedroon going for $1300 per month. But, paradise is worth it!
