I just heard that there was an accident at the building Trump is putting up next door (Varick and Spring Streets). A cement carrier hit the top corner of the building on the way up, collapsing the corner of the top two floors. Word is 4 construction workers fell and were killed. It’s about 30 stories high so far.
More when I hear it.

Latest is one killed (he came down from the top, I heard cut in half).
I saw another worker taken down in one of the buckets. The firefighters worked on him for about 10 minutes and then got him on a stretcher with oxygen.
There have been a bunch of problems with this construction. First, they found skeletons while working on the foundation. There was a church on the site years ago and it had a small cemetery out back. The cleared the land and began construction. Since then there was a bus accident, there has been damage to other buildings (the one I’m in and the one behind it) which have been hit by rebar and other materials being sent up by crane. There was a collapse of some sort on a Sunday night where material fell from high up and made it all the way across Varick Street.

A guy I know was out back on the loading dock having a smoke when the crap hit the fan. From my understanding, the worker fell from the top, when the bucket of cement lost control on hit on of the support columns on the second highest floor, collapsing the corner of the top two floors. Debris and cement came down as well.LIPH wrote:Not much info but this is from the local NBC affiliate

The radio (1010 WINS) is reporting that another worker was caught by the safety netting, he could be the guy I saw being worked on because he had cement on him.
They also reported on the radio that there is an open citation on the crane operation of the building going back to October. Glad to see they enforced that.
