Anyone ever been and have any suggestions? My wife are doing a "road trip" vacation this year and are thinking of spending a couple days in St. Augustine. Any suggestions?

Don't miss the lighthouse. It's really special. And I've always wanted to go back and check out the Magic Beach Motel.
http://www.vilanobeachmotel.com/aboutus.html
The Atlantic Ocean from the top of the St. Augustine Lighthouse. That little beach motel is right across there on the other side of the inlet on Vilano Beach.
And, you can drive out on the beach.

This one has a working first order fresnel lens
Check out one of the 3 bulls-eyes

Do yourself a favor and check out the Conch House (http://www.conch-house.com/) for a couple beers. It is across the bridge and down a couple miles on the left. Another neat thing to check out is a tour of Flagler College and its unbelieveable architecture. Right down the street from the college is Scarlet O'Hara's (http://www.scarlettoharas.net/), which happens to be a nice place for a couple drinks after said tour of Flagler. After that, it is time to continue on to historic St. George St. Be sure to check out the Milltop Tavern (http://www.milltop.com/) at the end of St. George St. - hopefully Don Oja Dunaway is playing, as well as The St. George Tavern (a couple blocks away from the Milltop). St. Augustine is a great city - have a great time!

Has anybody stayed at the beachfront Hampton Inn? Surprisingly, it doesn't look like there are a whole lot of places to stay in St. Augustine that are oceanfront with a pool. My wife and I definately want to stay somewhere nice but prices are higher than Key West!

Go for the Beach Bash July 11-12, you'll be glad you did. Looks like it's at the Hampton this year, which is where you're considering anyways. Just don't tell em the Plays from Texas sent you, they might not let you register.

C'mon back, Bill! We have the entire hotel this year, so your choice of swimmingMr Play wrote:Go for the Beach Bash July 11-12, you'll be glad you did. attire can't offend any outsiders. And with the pool so close to the balconies, I'm sure
you two can entertain the whole parrothead crowd! (Just don't name any new babies after me!)
And yes, BR, do come for the event. You'll have to register (and put up with a lot of
parrothead activities), but it is definitely worth it! All the info is here: http://a1aparrotheads.org/bb_2008.htm
If you end up coming at a different time, the hotel is lovely, with some of the nicest
rooms I've ever stayed in. You can even get a beach/pool view room with a jacuzzi!

Ten minutes from downtown St. Augustine is a place called Beacher's Lodge: http://www.beacherslodge.com/ located on Crescent Beach. They are oceanfront condos with kitchenettes and the place has a pool.Bob Roberts wrote:Has anybody stayed at the beachfront Hampton Inn? Try Columbia restaurant, excellent food. Lunch is fairly reasonable. Dinner can be a little spendy. In the historic district.

Also try Salt Water Cowboys, south of town down A1A

For a nice little treat try Claude's Chocolates, near Columbia in historic district

I might have to come by and see what this is about! I am looking at houses in Ponte Vedra or Flagler Beach for either that week or the week before. Anybody got a recommendation between the 2? From what I can tell, Flagler appears to have a little road between the oceanfront houses and the beach where Ponte Vedra does not.Desdamona wrote:http://www.buffettnews.com/forum/viewto ... highlight=

I think I'll take my shoes off and go walking
