If you stack against the run, then you give Brady that bomb to Moss for quick scores and you'll be down 14 to 0 or 21 - 7 before your offense can get going.

You can't take away Moss only. If you play cover two, then you give Brady the middle to complete passes to Faulk and Welker with runs by Maroney for 6 to 8 yards a pop. I would think you would need to switch between these two types of defenses so that it will throw everyone off.

I'VE MISSED YOU ADMIRAL OBVIOUS!

Defenses have played Cover 2 against the Pats all year . . . time for a change I would think after an 18 - 0 start. Perhaps a 4 - 3 Nickel with a constant blitz?

Let Maroney burn you . . . not Brady.

4-3 Nickle?? Isn't that contradicting? Nickle has 5 DB's and 4-3 has 4 DB's!

a 4-3 Nickel would require 12 players on the field.
 um . . . my bad . . . I might have misplaced a number or two there.

I do believe the Patriots will win...but I also believe that the Giants CAN beat them.

Reasons:

1. The Patriots peaked about 2 months ago. They have continued to win, but not to dominate.
2. The Patriots have momentum, but so do the Giants...and Eli Manning is playing the best football of his life.
3. I've said all along, there are 2 things you need to do to beat this Patriots team. The Giants do BOTH of them REALLY WELL....
FIRST, you have to HIT Tom Brady. ALL of his interceptions this year came in the rare games where he actually got sacked. He was rarely touched this year. The Giants led the league in sacks. They can get to Brady....rush him, throw off his timing.
SECOND, you have to run a ball-control offense. That's what the Giants do. If they can execute this game-plan, it keeps Brady and Moss on the sidelines.

Again, I think the Patriots will win, but I do believe the Giants can beat them. Won't be surprised one bit if the upset happens!

The Jags didn't pressure Brady. That's why they failed.

And yes, I'm a Chargers fan, but I honestly believe that if LT had played the whole game, the Chargers would have won. He's the best RB in the game, he would have made a difference in the Red Zone.

Funny article, especially the "conspiracy theory" as to why no one saw LT leave after the game.

All good points...

I think NE will win because they have a bye week and Belichick now has seen Manning and will come up with something to confuse him. The Giants played NE tough in week 17 and that was probably their best game of the year. Will NY have the same game plan and can it work twice? And if they change the game plan will they play as well? I doubt it. Week 17 was their peak this season, they played nearly flawless and still lost. In the SB Belichick will have a game-plan to stop NY if they try to mimic what they did in week 17 and if NY changes things I can't see how they will be as effective.

Experience is also a huge factor, most of the Patriots have been though the super-bowl hype so they know what to expect. Emmit Smith said one of the toughest things to get used to is the time in-between warming up and the game starting, in every other game there is about a 10 minute wait, in the super-bowl there is about a 40+ minute wait because of all the pregame stuff. Smith said the 2nd and 3rd time he played in the SB they were prepared for the wait and it helped them a great deal.

The Patriots should be congratulated on their outstanding achievement of an unbeaten season. This takes a lot for a Ravens fan to say, believe me, but it is well deserved.

And, from a pure historical perspective, I'd like to see the Pats win the Super Bowl as well.

But, I have to admit, the Giants are also playing some pretty impressive football themselves here of late!

I'm just hoping for a good, close game for all fans watching......

Pierce needs a huge game. I agree!
There defense has played very well as of late.....and seems to be a lot different in there approach....shutting down the top 2 offenses in the NFC!!!...Yes they gave up 38 points!!!....but most of those points came late.....so if they could do what they did for the 1st 3 quarters of that game in December....and i'm sure they will come up with some new schemes and looks for Brady...they will be OK!!....i think it will be a lot closer than expected!!!.....Giants can play loose in that game.....they aren't suppose to be there....and the Patriots are heavy favorites....that can be a dangerous combination!!
Oh god yeah! I am not underestimating the Giants at all . . . just like I didn't the Jags or the Bolts . . .

I agree about the Giants' defense for the first 3 quarters against the Pats but, as you know, the game is 60 minutes long and that has been a common saying in Pats' players press conferences . . . got to play 60.

I have to believe that Bellichick's number 1 focus right now is how to get Moss (2 catches in 2 playoff games) involved more in an arena that will allow Brady to air out a few 50 + yard throws . . . open up the field for Welker and Watson in the middle and give Maroney some room to run . . . if I were Coughlin I think I would have to play conservative and guard with the Cover 2 and see if Maroney can keep up these big numbers . . .
That could work only if the front 4 or 3 can get Pressure on Brady.....if they have a game like they did against the Eagles earlier in the year 11 sacks...then it may work!!!....but i hate Zone type defenses.....i like to be aggressive and attack the ball!!.....and i meant they had to play 4 quarters like they did the 1st 3 in that game!!!

what i don't like is the 2 weeks...advantage to the Patriots....Giants usually are terrible after a off week!!!...and you give Belichick 2 weeks to prepare is a dangerous formula!!

Now your a Giants fan

Reading the NY papers I love how the are saying that because they "almost beat NE" the first time that they now know what to do and can win this time. Do they just assume that NE is going to have the same game plan and just go out and run the same plays? It is at all possible that NE is thinking the same thing, that they could have lost and need to play better and have a better game-plan? That game the Patriots were missing 2 of their starters on the OL and NY was able to get pressure, for the SB all 5 OL starters will be playing. With 2 weeks to prepare a gameplan for a team they already played who do you have more trust in Belichick or Coughlin?
I grew up with the Giants....going back to the Ron Johnson...Tucker Fredrickson.....Fran Tarkington...Bob Tucker...Don Herman....Norn Snead days early 70's..before cable..and the NFL package....yes i'm a Dolphin fan 1st.....but in this area it's Giants territory and every Sunday it would be in the basement of a friends house with a bunch of people and the Giants on...i wanted the Packers to win against the Giants because i'm a Huge Bret Favre fan!!!...and i do like the Packer Mystique of old Lambeau Field and the Whole Green Bay thing!!...so i didn't have to but did answer your question!!

and almighty expert of defense...how would you cover the Patriots!!!.....i'd start off with a 3 man front ...2 linebackers......and 5 safeties/corners....Blitzing form different positions and dropping a linemen into coverage.....i don't think you could play a base defense shadowing Moroney with a Linebacker.......having 1 0n 1 with Moss and zoning the slot......i think you have to pressure and throw off there timing...with different looks....also move around a lot and call the defense with about 10 seconds or less on the play clock...makes it harder to audible!!

Jesus H Christ..pick one team to root for...somehow I think if the Patriots were playing the Tenn Titans you would say you liked them and remember watching them from back in the Earl Campbell, Bum Phillips and Warren Moon days in Houston.

I have never claimed to be the expert of defense but I do understand enough about formations to know the difference between a 3-4 D (4 DB's) and a Nickel D (5 DB's).

How would I defend the Patriots? I don't know enough about the Giants personal to say. You can put 5 DB's out there so long as they are good DB's. Does NY have 5 quality DB's to play the majority of downs.

PS
Your way of stopping the Patriots: 3 man front ...2 linebackers......and 5 safeties/corners only covers 10 players.... :D

My amateur opinion, if NY only plays with 10 on D their chances of winning is even further reduced.

I don't think NY has 6 good enough DB's that could play the whole game but they have 9 on roster.

I really only like the Red Sox and Patriots (and the Celtics, Bruins, BC, UMass and USC) and to a point the Braves because my grandfather used to talk about them when he was still with us. The other teams I follow are only because I don't like them like the Yankees and Colts. But I do follow players on other teams, I am still a huge Nomar fan as well as Derek Lowe, Pedro, Dave Roberts and in football 2 of my favorite non-Patriots are on the Dolphins, Ricky Williams and Jason Taylor, the latter of who I hope end sup in NE next season.

I follow the Yankees a lot for obvious reasons
