Just stayed there. Most places have a 2 week minimum in prime season. Only about 10 hotels on the island, all small and independent. Many villas at $500-$5000 per day. Check out the Sunset but it books up fast.

We are island folk, so we would be there in low season. Will check out the place you suggested. All we lookin' for is a single night between French St. Martin and Dutch St. Maarten, mostly becos' I don' wanna fly into there, which means we gotta take de ferry and stay over.
Have heard St. Jean is a nice beach, anyone know anyplace there? $500 a night seems steep. Even Barbados not that expensive most places !!!

Not as big a fan as some . . . find a place in island because all the beaches are more than easy to get to and you will save a ton of money . . . otherwise, to me, it is an overpriced island with scenary no better than some of the more working class friendly spots . . .
Nantucket in the summer is way better . . .

trust me.

Would LOVE to go to Nantucket, grew up on the Connecticut shore, right at the beach... however, not likely to be in New England in the summer. Somehow we never got out to Nantucket... Fisher's Island, Cape Cod, yeah but not the Grey Lady. We will be there sometime.
We thought we ought to visit St. Barth at least once... doing the French islands is a sort of goal during this Caribbean assignment. Have heard the airport is far hairier than Castries or Vincy. Hence ferry/hotel etc.
Inland, eh? Maybe a guest house?

I've never had the opportunity to even consider planning a trip to the islands so I do a lot of browsing of websites. this looked like a good source to me on some cool/cheap places in mexico. and yes, $500 a night seems about right for St Bart's. Saw some for as little as $130 on other islands.

Unless you can afford a month there I don't recomend it . . . much better places if cost is a factor . . .
I have had the luck to live on Nantucket for work. Great place to sail and party . . . and a famous balding rock star just might stop in . . .

We're very good at off seasons.
We would think of Nantucket "when the coast is clear", to quote a certain balding troubadour, and besides, know for a fact that the LI Sound water is warmer after Labor Day.
And we know places one (well, we, anyway) can stay on places like our beloved B'dos for $100 a night... so the Caribbean IS affordable, but -- this'd just be part of a 10 day trip to 4 islands, Antigua, St. Kitts, St.Martin/St.Maarten, St. Barth.... I looked up Sunset Villa on St. Barth, by the way, but it looks just like our home here in Trinidad! --- and I have found 'affordable' on the other 3 islands, but am stumped by St. Barth. WHY is this island so much more expensive?! Is it the restaurants?

This is the most beautiful little beachfront cottage (villa?) in SBH. Right on the beach in Lorient, with a great view of the ruins of Autour de Rocher.

Walk out your front gate and there you are...

It's the crowd. Has been a monied jet-set bunch for ages.

Oh, well (: Only appears to rent by the week, and we just want a night, pop in, pop out. Looks like it is about $370 a night in down season. But the overalll villa website looks good.
I think St. Barth must get almost ONLY a jet set crowd. 'Cause Barbados gets those people too, I know, we used to count the private jets down at the Liat end of the tarmac for amusement, not to mention the yachts moored off Sandy Lane -- and yet there are still plenty of places and activities there for more ordinary travellers as well. St. Barth sounds more like a big version of Mustique.

Would a ferry over for the day from St Martin be feasible? We were on St Barth's for a day and a half as part of a cruise. Pricey but gorgeous. I think it is St Jean beach where the planes take off and some land right above your head (Eden Rock is there).

Well we were planning to take the ferry but wanted to stay over one night, so as to be able to have dinner, and drive about a bit. The cheapest rate I've found so far, and that's a small inn telling me that this is a "resident's -- that is Caribbean resident-- off season rate" is $265.00. Which is about twice as much as a Caricom resident can usually get a room for in off season. But it may be the best available on that island!
I also have been told that this island is not particularly Caribbean in population, that is, not West Indian. (St. John also seemed that way to us.) Is this so, since you have been there?

There might be 10 people on St. Barths "from" St. Barths . . .

We think we go Anguilla instead!! Much easier to travel to, and Jimmy says we'll get enough French food in French St. Martin... trip mostly in place-- Antigua (Falmouth Harbour) 2, St. Martin 2 (w/sailing), Anguilla 1, St. Kitts 2, St. Maarten 1, Antigua (Dickenson) 1 (w/H3 run) and back home to T&T, 6 hotels, 3 different airlines (each smaller than the one before!), ? beaches, 1 ferry, and a partridge in a pear tree.
NEXT question.... so what's the best beach on Anguilla? Shoal Bay, Cove, Rendevous?

all of them . . .
