Jimmy Reference on a Final Exam

Post by f2cdlzrd »

I teach high school business/marketing and all my students know my love for Jimmy Buffett and his music. I even use leis for hall passes. Today I was administering a final exam in Sports & Entertainment Marketing. We are not allowed to look at the state tests, but as I was collecting them, one student said, "Ms. Gaddy, question #80 is for you." After his comment I could not help but look at the question. It read:

'Which organization would benefit from joining the National Association of Concessionaires?"

A- Jared's Jewelry
B- A Jimmy Buffett fan club :D
C- Twin City Bowling Lanes (the correct answer)
D- Weight Watchers

I started laughing as I read the question. They even spelled Buffett correctly! Anyway, I just thought I would share with you. If my students remember nothing else, they will leave my class knowing who Jimmy Buffett is and what he stands for. Have a great day!

Excellent! Now commit that to memory and you will not be asked that "final exam" question for many more decades to come.

I went out onto eBay to find the answer myself. I found 4 copies of the 45 for sale and the sellers all listed the B-side differently.

The Wind and I Know
The Who and I Know
The Wino and Me
and one had it right .... The Wino and I Know

All four sellers spelled Jimmy's name as Jimmy Buffet. :D

A few years ago when I took the NY English Regents (state test), they had an essay about manatees and how they are endangered, how many die each year and what is being done to protect them. We were supposed to read it and answer a few questions, then use a chart on the back to write a brief essay. They got to the Save the Manatee Foundation in the essay, and mentioned the name of one of the first manatees they rescued and rehabbed. The only problem was its name was Buffet.

Sometimes more than others,
we see who and what and where we are,
I'm just a one man band,
With my feet in the sand,
Tonight I just need my guitar

I had to take the regents many years ago, they are nothing but a terrible excuse for a standardized test. They are thrown out more than any other test I know. It figures they would spell a name wrong on an ENGLISH test
