Believe it or not
Fats Domino (!!!) and Buckwheat Zydeco opened for Jimmy Buffett.
Peter Mayer has opened for JB one year, as I understand it, doing one song--"Hair of the Dog," and Fingers Taylor has opened-- and Fingers Taylor and the Lady Finger Revue (which included Janiva Magnus and Debbie Davies).
I really wish Buffett would allow opening acts again...the tickets are so expensive (by JB's own admission) and I feel like a lot of these bands would be great to hear.
I want him to have Clarence "Frogman" Henry opening for him, and maybe Benny Spellman, or a lot of great New Orleans cats. Help turn people onto new things. It's too bad he doesn't have an opener anymore.
But what do I know.

I have seen Livingston Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Little Feat and Fingers. I was thinking maybe Rita Coolidge too, but that era of my life is a bit fuzzy (self induced)

I remember Marshal Chapman, Little Feat, Evangeline, and a couple of the others mentioned.
I remember Buffett and Steve Goodman at the Alabama State Fair. I thought that Goody opened for him, but the more I think about it, they might have been two different shows on consecutive nights. That was thirty years ago and a lot of brain cells have died since then.
Before the Texas Tornados broke up and everybody died, I kind of hoped I'd get to see them open for him one day.

For some reason Pat Benatar (doesn't seem right though),comes to mind as an opener at Blossom in Cuyahoga Falls Ohio in the late 90's. Feel free to dispute this, I know there was somebody there, but I missed them and only saw Jimmy. Does this ring a bell for anyone else? Its been driving me crazy since this thread started.

I remember Pat Bentar playing at Blossom (had to take my kids), but she was the headliner. I don't recall her opening for Jimmy, but who knows, stranger things have happened. I do remember Little Feat opening for him there years ago.

the Mermen
I would have
loved to see them open for Jimmy. The Mermen are fantastic, and their surf sound would go great with Jimmy's overall vibe.
Welp.

Johnny Clegg and Savuka also open up for Buffett at Buckeye Lake in Ohio. I think it was even the same show that Fats Domino opened?

I believe it was 95 at Nissan, Club Trini played outside in the parking lot. That was pretty cool.

I like the idea of a opening act... mostly because some of your buzz can wear off... and you can remember more of the show!
