Your boss ....

Post by creeky »

love em or hate em?

My immediate boss is pretty cool - she knows my history and takes time to talk to me if she can see that I am needing a talk..... but she trusts my judgement and just lets me get on with things and I only see her if I need to go see her for anything ....

My "big boss" ie boss of our whole office - is REALLY cool!!! He must feel at home with me as he is always swearing - which he does not do in front of a lot of others (not swearing to me - but in exasperation about stuff) .. and we talk footy!!!! 8)

I have had a boss before that I had to CC them in to any email I sent my staff .... watched every move - made me unwell .....

I am in the position now where all of my people love me [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif] ( a complete flip on my previous office!) - yet I am not really doing anything differently - go figure

Some bosses can be like Hitler ... or then there are the cool ones ....

  Football! (rugby league)

He is really cool - he supports a different team to me and is always giving me a hard time about Newcastle - so when I was in the USA and his side was in the national Grand Final - after the results - I sent an email congratulating him on their loss   8) 8)

In all seriousness, though, my boss is also my Dad, which makes the relationship (both work and out-of-work) rough at times. :-? But it's good that I see him every day.

My boss is a priest.....I'm not kidding.... 8)
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

Actively dislike her in the extreme. I like my job, like my co-workers, the company if fine overall (I don't like their idea of 'offering' vacation'), the pay acceptable ....but the ***insert nasty name*** that is my direct manager is a ***insert another nasty name worse then the first***.

Just this week I figured out that it really is her and not me. (She is smart and knows her job, I'll give her that much), but she is a huge fan of the show Surviour and she treats our office like it's one big reality show.

I've made up my mind to get out before I am the next one she tries to vote off the island or throws under the bus.

Thing is...EVERYONE has the same opinion of her. The nicest nickname she has is Dragon Lady.....I just don't see why this sort of ***different verse same as the first two** seems to thrive in professional settings.

Where the seagulls preach
Is where the Chinese buried the truth...

My boss is also the owner of the design studio.

-I now work an average of 34 hours a week for a salary that is 20% higher than my last job.
-Fully paid medical and dental benefits are provided.
-A 401k retirement plan is offered with boss contributing 3% on top of my investment.
- Although I have not been with the firm for a full year yet, i was given a fully paid week off at New Year's

but...

-boss encourages ideas.. then invariably ignores them, while micro-managing every detail.
-boss has demanded work availability at least 6 days a week, sometimes even Sunday.
-boss demands absolute punctuality. He fired a woman right after the holidays for her 3rd tardy... she was 15 minutes late.
-boss pays for sick leave... but calls me a wimp for actually asking to go home early today since I've been sick all this week.
-boss is incredibly moody... sometimes sends us home at 3pm happily, but sometimes launches into F-bomb-laced tirades, creating great stress.
-boss is a sexist, chauvinist pig who regularly makes females uncomfortable.
-boss gets drunk every Thursday night (??), making every Friday a cringe-worthy day.

I think the work is great, the pay great, but the boss leaves a lot to be desired :-?
$#@&...only Vegas again?? Padres ...gotta start believin'!Bring on '14 Spring Training!

I adore my boss. :D He is:

Hard working
Pitches in all the time
Appreciative
Humble
Smart
Caring
Tons of common sense
Dependable
Complimentary
Funny

And I thank my stars every day I work for such a fine man. :D

I've had some of the worst in the past. :o

That was one of the hardest things I had to do .... was to
"engage my staff" and trust their ideas ... took me a long time as I think I know best (I am sure I do  ) .... it is not easy to let other people contribute - as your butt gets kicked first. ..

but I have learnt it - and the people in return - they put their ideas in place - but they have a limited time to make it work - if it does - great - if not - they know they have to have the faith to come and tell me it is not working and we look at something different.

My immediate supervisor and overall boss are both the greatest.

1)They let ME do my job and never EVER micro-manage me.

2)They have me make my own work schedule. As long as I work 80 hours in each two-week pay period, they're fine with whatever days (or nights) I work.

3)They've both gone WAY above and beyond accomodating me when I need to take time off to take my wife to the doctor or stay at home and be with her because she's having a bad day.

4)All I do is show up & do my job, and they're always putting me in for a bonus-and are currently fighting with THEIR bosses to get me a promotion. Looks like something may happen in May on that score.
Of course, I'm always volunteering for extra assignments and told them both if there's ever a shortage of manpower on any shift to give me a call.
If you like the people you work for, you don't mind doing that.

5)Any time anyone in my squad gets a complaint filed against them, they both defend us to the very end.

I'm probably in the minority, but I absolutely love both of them and can't get over how lucky I am not only to be doing a job I really like, but also to have the trust and respect of those over me to do my job as I see fit.

A rare breed, both of them.

I only talked to my boss 3 or 4 times all last year. His boss I talk to or email at least twice a day, most days more. Both are laid back and hands off as long as you get results and don't make bad decisions.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win

My boss is not a good one. Micromanages, takes credit for our work, doesn't stand up for us or support us when we need her to, makes very arbitrary decisions.....seems to disappear off the face of the earth when we really need her around........just overall, not a good manager.

I am currently seeking new employment. I really like what I do, I'm just tired of the person I do it for. :-?

I am my own boss now . . . last two I worked for were amazing.

Jay was there for me when Steve was sick and when he passed . . . he and I were like brother/sister and worked very well together.

Renee was/is my best friend of 15 years . . . a lot of folks wondered if she and I could work together . . . no problems in 2 years.

Before those two, there some doozies!

My immediate boss is cool. We're the same age and used to hang out a lot, before he got a girlfriend that is.

The next boss up is still fairly new. We call him "Lord Vader" because of what we've heard but he has been friendly so far. He says we should all be friends. He's the kind of boss that can rip you a new @ss but in a nice way. He also documents every conversation you have with him.

The main boss, the Emperor/the Wizard is rarely seen.
Others have crossed him and paid the price but he's always been cool with me, even showed up at my suprise birthday party a few years back.
